Lucy Josephine for fifth daughter? Second-guessing, please chime in!

I am scheduled to deliver our fifth (and last!) daughter in 13 days, and we haven’t completely committed to a name yet. We are leaning toward [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]. What do you think?

Pros: Honors family, biblical connection ([name]Joseph[/name]), and good meaning (“light” and “the [name]Lord[/name] increases”). Cons: Three of our close friends have dogs named [name]Lucy[/name], and I’m afraid it’s getting popular in the human world, too (though I don’t know a [name]Lucy[/name] in our area-southern U.S.)

Our other daughters are: [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Lorena[/name], [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Grace[/name], [name]Madeline[/name] [name]Kay[/name], and [name]Anna[/name] [name]Kathleen[/name] ([name]Anna[/name] [name]Kate[/name])

Thank you for any encouragement or dissuading!

I love the antique charm of [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] and I think it goes beautifully with [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Amelia[/name], [name]Madeline[/name] and [name]Anna[/name] [name]Kate[/name]. Chances are that if you don’t know of a [name]Lucy[/name] in your area, then it probably isn’t popular. A lot of human names are given to our canine friends so I don’t think it’s a big deal. There are also alternatives like [name]Lucille[/name], [name]Lucia[/name] or [name]Lucinda[/name].

I also adore [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] and agree it goes well with the other girls. I don’t know any dogs named [name]Lucy[/name], so I think that may be a region specific bump. If you don’t know any children, it’s probably not too popular in your area, and also, her sisters names (also all gorgeous) are all pretty familiar, so I think it would be best to stay away from anything way too left-field anyway. I like the pp’s suggestions of [name]Lucia[/name] and [name]Lucinda[/name] too ([name]Lucille[/name] not as much, although there are certainly worse). All best!

I think [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] is actually quite nice. But I, personally, am not really fond of [name]Lucy[/name]. I don’t really like the look of it, and prefer [name]Lucie[/name].
[name]Lucia[/name] is another option, [name]Lucinda[/name], [name]Lucille[/name]. [name]Elena[/name], [name]Helen[/name], [name]Helena[/name] mean light as well if you want to keep that meaning.

[name]Lucie[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Lucia[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] nn [name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Lucinda[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] nn [name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Lucille[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] nn [name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Elena[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Helen[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]

My faves from what I suggested are [name]Lucia[/name] [name]Josephine[/name], and [name]Helena[/name] [name]Josephine[/name].

BTW I adore the naming of [name]Anna[/name] [name]Kate[/name].

I happen to [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]! I think it fits perfectly with your other daughters’ names, too. I certainly understand your concern with the dog name thing… I’ve known three [name]Lucy[/name] puppies myself. But I don’t think that takes away the sweet femininity of the name for a person. A lot of movie/book characters I’ve liked have been named [name]Lucy[/name]. [name]Sandra[/name] Bullock has been a [name]Lucy[/name] in some of my favorite chick flicks! =D Bottom line, I’d say go for it. But if you are still feeling some hesitation, perhaps [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Lucinda[/name] or [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Lucia[/name] would make an agreeable alternative? (I think [name]Josephine[/name] is lovely in its length, but it also yields fun NNs [name]Jo[/name], [name]Joey[/name], and [name]Josie[/name].)

I love [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] with your other daughters! It is relatively popular, but not exceedingly so, and I think it works great in your situation.

Good luck!

I don’t think it’s too popular. Our daughter is [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name] and I’ve yet to meet another. I run into more of the [name]Kailey[/name] and [name]Madison[/name] type names in our area. It’s a classic that fits well with the other beautiful names of your daughters. Also, not to sound like a downer but dogs have a relatively short lifespan so 10-12 years from now you won’t be running into those specific dogs anymore and who knows what the canine name trend will be then! I’ve thought it peculiar that people give human names to dogs now and more dog like sounding names to children (some, more of the exception, but still).

The reason that brought us to choose for our [name]Lucy[/name] was family (grandma’s mn of [name]Lucille[/name]) and loved that it meant light also as she was born in the summer. I think it’s a beautiful choice!

I know dogs named [name]Gracie[/name] (my dd#1 is [name]Grace[/name]), [name]Annie[/name] (dear niece is [name]Annie[/name]), [name]Maggie[/name] (friend’s name), and the list goes on and on! [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] is very cute/pretty, and goes so well with her sisters’ beautiful names! Congratulations on the baby – and the name!

I wouldnt sweat it! [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] is adorable!

I think [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] is lovely! it goes very nicely with the names of your other girls as well. For the record I do not know one dog named [name]Lucy[/name] but I know 2 humans with the name!

[name]Lucy[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] is gorgeous! It fits well with your other daughters, and it just sounds good

Gorgeous and perfect with your girls names (which I love as well!)

I think [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] would make the perfect addition to all your beautiful girl’s names

I love [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] (both names my dh vetoed). My favorite version of a name to get to [name]Lucy[/name] is [name]Luciana[/name] would love to get to use it (but I love my husband more)!

[name]Lucy[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] is such a [name]LOVELY[/name] name, so pretty! I think it fits very well with your girls’ names. They’ll have beautiful names, all of them! Good luck:)

[name]Lucy[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] is a beautiful name & fits in well with her big sisters. I also thought suggestion of [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Lucinda[/name]/[name]Lucy[/name] nn [name]Josie[/name] was very cute & works with sisters’ names. Good luck!

[name]Lucy[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] is beautiful. [name]Lucy[/name] is one of my favourite names. I’m a little concerned about the popularity as well, though, so I think I want to use a fuller name like [name]Lucinda[/name] nn [name]Lucy[/name] just so she has something to fall back on incase there are a couple of other little [name]Lucy[/name]'s in her class. I wouldn’t worry too much about it, though. If DBF vetoes [name]Lucinda[/name], I’ll be quite happy with just [name]Lucy[/name]

I think [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] is gorgeous. It goes very well with her siblings’ names too.

That is an adorable name!!! I love it. I have no idea why so many dogs are named [name]Lucy[/name]- strange phenomenon. I don’t know any children named [name]Lucy[/name] where I live- upper midwest/ northeast- I think you should go for it!

Thank you for your encouragement and suggestions!
