Lucy or Ada (sibling for Tess)

Hello!
Husband and I are struggling to find a girls name that we both love.

Our first born is named [name_f]Tess[/name_f].

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite name for baby #2 is [name_f]Lucy[/name_f].
Husbands favourite is [name_f]Ada[/name_f].

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you have a preference? What’s goes best with [name_f]Tess[/name_f]?

Also, side question - could [name_f]Addie[/name_f] be a nickname for [name_f]Ada[/name_f]?

I don’t mind [name_f]Ada[/name_f], but really want the second to have an obvious nickname. People call our first [name_f]Tessie[/name_f], which I wasn’t expecting! :slightly_smiling_face:
I imagine Aids might be a nickname for [name_f]Ada[/name_f]?

Appreciate any opinions x

[name_f]Tess[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] would make the most lovely sisters! [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] definitely gets my vote!

[name_f]Addie[/name_f] could definitely work for [name_f]Ada[/name_f]!

Lucy is adorable. I vote [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]!

Not a fan of [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] so I’d go with [name_f]Ada[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] [name_f]Nanna[/name_f] is [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and goes by [name_m]Ad[/name_m] (most of the time) or [name_f]Addie[/name_f] (from her siblings) so you could use one of those. I personally think that if people call [name_f]Tess[/name_f] “[name_f]Tessie[/name_f]”, then they will probably just call [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Ada[/name_f] because it’s already two syllables and fits with “[name_f]Tessie[/name_f]”.

I love [name_f]Ada[/name_f]! [name_f]Addie[/name_f] definitely works as a nickname.

[name_f]Welcome[/name_f] to Nameberry, @Sinny01

[name_f]Tess[/name_f] is a gorgeous name, one of my faves!

I think both of your choices are great, but [name_f]Ada[/name_f] seems to have a bit more strength to it, to me at least, and I think it stands up slightly better beside [name_f]Tess[/name_f]. [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is beautiful too, though!

[name_f]Addie[/name_f] would certainly work for [name_f]Ada[/name_f], but it’s not my favourite nickname. It’s become sort of the “new [name_f]Maddie[/name_f]”, due to the popularity of [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]/Adalyn and its variants, so it doesn’t have the sweet vintage vibe and distinctiveness that [name_f]Tessie[/name_f] does.

I actually know a little [name_f]Ada[/name_f] who gets called [name_f]Ada[/name_f] Vader (we are British, so it’s pronounced like [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Vada[/name_f]) – how do you feel about [name_f]Vada[/name_f]? Either as a nickname or as an alternative.

I don’t love Aids as a potential nickname either, for obvious reasons… Hmm, maybe [name_f]Adie[/name_f] (AY-dee)?

I do agree that just [name_f]Ada[/name_f] as is already has that short, funky retro vibe going on which fits beautifully with both [name_f]Tess[/name_f] and [name_f]Tessie[/name_f].

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

Ooh, I love [name_f]Tess[/name_f]! [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is really nice. It’s smart, short, simple, feminine & down to earth. That all being said, I just love the spunky sweetness of [name_f]Tess[/name_f] & [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. And [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] has the obvious ‘[name_f]Lu[/name_f]’ or ‘[name_f]Lulu[/name_f]’ nns. [name_f]Ada[/name_f] nn [name_f]Addie[/name_f] seems like sort of a stretch. I think that Aidie could be cute.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

Tess and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] sound like perfect sisters.

I love both [name_f]Ada[/name_f] & [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]…so it’s a tough call. [name_f]Tessie[/name_f] & [name_f]Lu[/name_f] or [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] would be just adorable together, but I really like how [name_f]Tess[/name_f] & [name_f]Ada[/name_f] sound as a pair. Though [name_f]Tess[/name_f] & [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] sound pretty perfect, too.

While ‘[name_f]Addie[/name_f]’ could technically work for [name_f]Ada[/name_f], it sounds a little too matchy with [name_f]Tessie[/name_f], imo. (And I would definitely avoid ‘Aids’ as a nn!)

Overall, I think I’m giving my vote to [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this could help!

I love both but I think [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] goes better with [name_f]Tess[/name_f].

I do think [name_f]Addie[/name_f] works well as a nn for [name_f]Ada[/name_f]. Perhaps you could name her [name_f]Adaline[/name_f], [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f], or [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] if you like any of those and then your husband can call her [name_f]Ada[/name_f] as a nickname and you can call her [name_u]Allie[/name_u], [name_f]Addie[/name_f], [name_u]Lyn[/name_u], [name_f]Lina[/name_f] or whatever suits you more?

I prefer [name_f]Ada[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] name is [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], and I hate how often it gets compared to [name_m]Lucifer[/name_m] or LSD. I know I’m not actually named after either of those things, but I still don’t like being given those nicknames.

I love [name_f]Ada[/name_f], and I think [name_f]Addie[/name_f] works as a nickname!

Another nickname I’ve always thought would be soo cute for [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is [name_f]Edelweiss[/name_f] (for a really nerdy reason - [name_f]Ada[/name_f] comes from [name_m]German[/name_m] for noble, edel, so it shares that with the lovely flower. Liking the Sound of [name_f]Music[/name_f] helps too, haha).

Lucy and [name_f]Ada[/name_f] are both perfect as a sibling for [name_f]Tess[/name_f] so it’s a hard choice! But as you said people call her [name_f]Tessie[/name_f], I think I’d go with [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] because I think the -e sound at the end of both goes better together.

They both have a warm, cosy feel and I likr the potential nicknames [name_f]Lu[/name_f], [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] and [name_f]Lula[/name_f]

Tess and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is so sweet! I’ve never really seen the appeal of [name_f]Ada[/name_f], unfortunately, but [name_f]Tess[/name_f] and [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is nice, too? I like that [name_f]Tess[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] seem more compatible in a sense of style, level of sweetness and approachability… they just seem perfect together. [name_f]Ada[/name_f] seems more strong than sweet to me, but [name_f]Tess[/name_f] is much less popular than it seems like it should be, so popularity wise, [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_f]Tess[/name_f] are probably great together, too. I’m still team [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], though. [name_f]Tess[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is just so sweet!

I think both are beautiful, but I like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] more! [name_f]Addie[/name_f] could be a nickname for [name_f]Ada[/name_f], but [name_f]Aidy[/name_f] (like [name_f]Aidy[/name_f] [name_m]Bryant[/name_m] from SNL) could also be a nickname!

Lucy is my favourite with [name_f]Tess[/name_f]!
