Lucy

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]

I am wondering if you would use [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] as stand alone name? Personally I would. I love the name so much. The only problem I have with it is it a little short in letters for me. I normally love longer names… [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Isabel[/name_f]/[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] to name a few. Would you let the how many letters in a name stop you from using a name you love? I am on the fence about it. Except for [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] is there any other names that could be a longer variation of [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]? Another thought I had was spelling it [name_f]Lucie[/name_f]. But with the [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] spelling I am worried that my future daughter would have to spell her name all the time for people. I live in the UK. Thoughts?

Any help appreciated.

I love just [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and would absolutely use her with any of the sister names you mentioned (not personally but with most I wouldn’t think twice about the names together - even as a namenerd).
I think as most of them are very similar in style or have two syllables the length differences doesn’t matter.

I have a [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] who we call [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. I think it is also fine as a stand alone name.

I think it works fine as a full name! It’s got lots of history, so it doesn’t sound nicknamey at all.

[name_f]Lucille[/name_f], [name_f]Lucretia[/name_f], [name_f]Lucetta[/name_f] or [name_f]Elouise[/name_f] could be full names but (aside from [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]) I like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] best on its own

I absolutely think it works as a stand-alone name.

Some other options that haven’t been mentioned yet (if you do decide you’d rather have a longer formal name):

Annalucia, [name_f]Aluisa[/name_f]
Laurencia
[name_f]Lilou[/name_f]
[name_m]Llewellyn[/name_m]/Luellen
[name_f]Luciana[/name_f], [name_f]Lucienne[/name_f], [name_f]Luciella[/name_f], [name_f]Lucilla[/name_f], [name_f]Lucette[/name_f], [name_f]Lucine[/name_f], [name_f]Lucerne[/name_f]/[name_f]Luzerne[/name_f]/[name_f]Lucerna[/name_f], [name_f]Lux[/name_f]/Luxe/Luxen, [name_f]Luz[/name_f], [name_f]Lucasta[/name_f], [name_f]Lula[/name_f], [name_f]Luella[/name_f], Lusine, Lucelia, Lucera, [name_f]Luanna[/name_f]/[name_f]Luana[/name_f], [name_f]Ludmila[/name_f], [name_f]Luetta[/name_f], [name_f]Luminosa[/name_f], [name_f]Luneth[/name_f], [name_f]Lunette[/name_f]/[name_f]Lunetta[/name_f], Luvina/Luviana, Ludvila
Lysandra
[name_f]Melusine[/name_f]
[name_f]Stellaluna[/name_f]

These may be a bit more of a stretch – [name_f]Liesel[/name_f], [name_u]Lindsey[/name_u], [name_f]Lisbet[/name_f]/[name_f]Lisbeth[/name_f], [name_f]Lisabette[/name_f]/[name_f]Lizabette[/name_f], Lizabelle, [name_f]Lourdes[/name_f], [name_f]Marylouise[/name_f]

I also like the idea of a double barrel like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]-[name_f]Ann[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]-[name_f]Ana[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]-[name_f]Belle[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]-[name_f]Beth[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]-[name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]-[name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]-[name_u]Leigh[/name_u], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]-[name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]-[name_f]Bea[/name_f]… or [name_f]Anna[/name_f]-[name_f]Lucia[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_f]Lucia[/name_f], [name_f]Maya[/name_f]-[name_f]Lucia[/name_f], [name_f]Sara[/name_f]-[name_f]Lucia[/name_f]…

You could also do a first name/middle combo to add up to the sounds of nickname [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] – for example: [name_f]Luna[/name_f] [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]/[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]/[name_f]Cecile[/name_f], [name_f]Leah[/name_f] [name_u]Simone[/name_u], [name_f]Lila[/name_f] [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f], [name_f]Layla[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f] [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f], [name_f]Alouette[/name_f] [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f], [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] [name_f]Celeste[/name_f]/[name_f]Celestina[/name_f], [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Macy[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_u]Sierra[/name_u], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]/[name_f]Gracie[/name_f]/[name_f]Graciella[/name_f], [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] [name_f]Gracelyn[/name_f], [name_f]Leona[/name_f] [name_f]Serenity[/name_f], [name_f]Luella[/name_f] [name_f]Cerise[/name_f], [name_f]Lula[/name_f] [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u], [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Thessaly[/name_f], [name_f]Luanne[/name_f] [name_f]Marciella[/name_f], Lumen [name_u]Marley[/name_u], [name_f]Lurlene[/name_f] [name_f]Ursula[/name_f], [name_f]Lorena[/name_f] [name_f]Lace[/name_f], [name_f]Livia[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f], Plumeria [name_f]Chantilly[/name_f], [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] [name_f]Eunice[/name_f], [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Sedonia[/name_f], [name_f]Bluebelle[/name_f] [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f], [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] [name_f]Eudora[/name_f], [name_f]Jubilee[/name_f] [name_f]Sienna[/name_f], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_f]Serena[/name_f], Liara [name_u]Sydney[/name_u], [name_f]Angelou[/name_f] [name_f]Sybil[/name_f], [name_f]Emmy[/name_f]-[name_f]Lu[/name_f]/[name_f]Emmalou[/name_f] [name_f]Sonya[/name_f] , [name_f]Marylou[/name_f] [name_f]Suzannah[/name_f]

I have a love-hate relationship with [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] but I definitely don’t think it’s too cutesy. If you want a longer name, [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] would be a good option, or maybe something like [name_f]Ludmila[/name_f] or [name_f]Melisande[/name_f].

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] has been a stand-alone name since the Middle Ages. It strikes me as a little ironic that to the modern mind she should be used as a diminutive for the likes of [name_f]Lucille[/name_f], rather than the other way around – [name_f]Lucille[/name_f], after all, comes from a [name_m]Roman[/name_m] diminutive for [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]. It’s a bit like using [name_f]Anna[/name_f] as a diminutive for [name_f]Anoushka[/name_f].

To get back to the point, [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is sweet, simple and very versatile and wearable. I wouldn’t hesitate to use her.

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is very pretty. It’s been used as a full name for ages, so I don’t think it’s too much of a nickname.

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is on our list if this baby is a girl. My older girls are [name_u]Clare[/name_u] (short-name) and [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] (long-name). I sometimes feel that the brevity of [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] makes it seem not as weighty as the longer classics but my hunch is that in “real-life” it won’t matter at all.

Like others have said, [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] has been a standalone name for a very long time. It’s a favourite of mine and I wouldn’t hesitate to use it. I also like the [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] spelling. You just accept that you will need to sometimes correct people if you choose it.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] the look of just [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. It just looks so pretty to me. I do think [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] is also lovely and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]/[name_f]Elouise[/name_f] nicknamed [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] are nice options.
The meaning is beautiful, it’s a classic that sounds somewhat modern, a bit quirky but also sweet…one of my favorites for sure. I wouldn’t let the number of letters keep you from using it:)
