I thought we had decided on [name_f]Stella[/name_f] - but husband said he’s heard it too much lately and he doesn’t like it anymore. So we’re between his favorite and my favorite, which do you like better?
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] or [name_f]Luella[/name_f]?
I am not a fan of “[name_f]Addie[/name_f]” at all - I would much prefer “[name_f]Adele[/name_f]” but he loathes the singer.
I’ve always wanted to call a daughter “[name_u]Lou[/name_u]”, and my husband likes [name_f]Ella[/name_f] but neither of us are keen on the popularity of it. I think this is a good compromise!
Thoughts are appreciated! Last name is [name_m]Morrison[/name_m] and brothers are [name_u]Tatum[/name_u] [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] and [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m].
I really love nicknames so the nn for a name always sways my decision. If you and DH don’t like either nn for [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] I probably wouldn’t use it. [name_f]Addie[/name_f] is the most obvious nn for [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] so she may end up being called that sometimes.
I really like the name [name_f]Luella[/name_f]. It is unique and sounds beautiful. If you like [name_u]Lou[/name_u] and DH likes [name_f]Ella[/name_f] as nn it sounds like a perfect compromise. Plus your daughter would have a unique name with the option of a common nn if she preferred that later.
[name_f]Luella[/name_f] is super sweet, and I think a better match with brothers [name_u]Tatum[/name_u] and [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u].
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Lou[/name_u], and this does seem like a perfect compromise ^^
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] feels very lacy and vintage compared to [name_u]Tatum[/name_u] and [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] which have a decidedly modern feel to them. And since you don’t actually like [name_f]Addie[/name_f] it seems a little weird to go for [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f].
I have [name_f]Adela[/name_f] on my lists, would it still be too close to [name_f]Adele[/name_f]? I think [name_f]Adela[/name_f] could be called [name_f]Ella[/name_f].
Other than that, [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] could be called [name_f]Ella[/name_f] also, along with [name_f]Della[/name_f], [name_u]Dell[/name_u], [name_f]Adie[/name_f] ([name_m]AD[/name_m]), Lady, [name_f]Aida[/name_f]/[name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_f]Elle[/name_f].
Another vote for [name_f]Luella[/name_f]. I’m not into the [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] craze. The ending sound turns me off. It makes me think of a refreshing drink (lemonade, Koolaid, lime-aid) or Rolaids (even worse). I prefer [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] for the [name_m]Ad[/name_m]-names. However, even with [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] I think of a phrase ("[name_m]Add[/name_m]-a-line… to a fishing pole maybe?"). Either way, you would definitely have to deal with [name_f]Addy[/name_f] as a nn so I would nix it entirely.
So thankful for the responses! It makes me feel a lot more confident in [name_f]Luella[/name_f]…I’m in love! I can already feel it!!
Any suggestions for middle names? Middle names that are out because other family members have already used: [name_f]Marcella[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Molly[/name_f]
I like [name_u]Lou[/name_u] and I like [name_f]Ella[/name_f], but not a huge fan of [name_f]Luella[/name_f]. [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is too trendy for me, but I do prefer it over [name_f]Luella[/name_f]. You could also call her [name_u]Dell[/name_u], [name_f]Della[/name_f], [name_f]Elle[/name_f] since you don’t like [name_f]Addy[/name_f].
I prefer [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], I have it on my list. The nickname for my [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], which is probably a bit “eh?” to most, but the sounds are all there and it works for me. Might work for you too, I like [name_u]Tatum[/name_u], [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] and [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] very well!
I have a [name_f]Lula[/name_f] [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] who we call [name_f]Lu[/name_f]. I couldn’t stand the [name_f]Addie[/name_f] nn for [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] either but have always liked the name and I wanted something to get us to nn [name_f]Lu[/name_f]. Why not go with [name_f]Luella[/name_f] [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]?
I’m going to be honest, I don’t care for [name_f]Luella[/name_f]. I understand how it’s a compromise, but to me it sounds like just that, a mash up of two names. I much prefer [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]. However, I get how you don’t care for [name_f]Addie[/name_f]. I feel like there are a million [name_f]Addie[/name_f]'s running around these days. But the good news is that there are many other nickname possibilities for [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] such as: [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Adele[/name_f], Dela, [name_f]Delia[/name_f], and [name_f]Laidey[/name_f].
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is one of those names that to me feel very current and very familiar, but are not popular at all (I mean this in a good way.) [name_f]Luella[/name_f] is cute, but feels like a smoosh name to me. For nicknames you can choose, Lady, [name_u]Dell[/name_u], [name_f]Della[/name_f], or (this is a bit of a stretch) [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]/[name_f]Ella[/name_f].
