Luke and Leah?

Our kids are [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_f]Leah[/name_f], and we’re expecting a boy! We love biblical names, and [name_m]Luke[/name_m] is on our short list. I’m nervous it’s too [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars when we already have a [name_f]Leah[/name_f]. (Pronounced [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-ah, but still?) Am I overthinking it?

It is a pretty strong association. When I saw your heading, [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars immediately popped into my mind. On the other hand, they are both good lovely classic names and the association is not necessarily a bad one. The association will be there, but it just depends on whether it will bother you or not.

It isn’t a bad association at all. I like the names together! I’d say go for it.

I don’t think this is a problem at all. In [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars, her name is [name_f]Leia[/name_f] ([name_m]Lay[/name_m]-a). I agree that the name [name_f]Leah[/name_f] is close, but there is still a noticeable difference [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

If you’re concerned about [name_m]Luke[/name_m], why not use [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] as an alternative?

Other suggestions:
[name_m]Duke[/name_m]
[name_m]Jake[/name_m]
[name_u]Seth[/name_u]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]

The connection honestly wouldn’t have even crossed my mind

[name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars was the first thing that popped into my mind. [name_m]Even[/name_m] with the newer movies and a new generation growing up with them, that’s a natural association. (Far more natural than [name_u]Rey[/name_u] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u], for example.)

But if you don’t mind the association, I say go for it. [name_m]Luke[/name_m] and [name_f]Leah[/name_f] are both nice names.

I thought [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars when I first saw it. The association isn’t a bad one, and [name_f]Leah[/name_f] and [name_f]Leia[/name_f] are different names. I like the suggestion of using [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] as an alternative. I don’t think it will be that big of a deal though. If you like the names, go for it. They are both lovely names

Too [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars for my taste.

I definitely thought [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars as soon as I saw the title of this post. I know [name_f]Leah[/name_f] is pronounced [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-ah but in my head, I still say [name_m]Lay[/name_m]-ah when I see it with [name_m]Luke[/name_m], and would have to fight really hard to not say that out loud if I met a [name_f]Leah[/name_f] with a brother [name_m]Luke[/name_m].
However, I don’t think it’s a bad association, just a question of whether or not the association (and the mix-up in pronunciation… maybe it’s just me though) would bother you.

I would probably try to find an alternative…could be [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] as mentioned, or [name_m]John[/name_m]-[name_m]Luke[/name_m]?
