So I really love the name [name_f]Luna[/name_f], I love the “lu” sound in the beginning and I LOVE the moon meaning, it’s special to me and I like the Italian roots. The only problem is, it’s a popular name for dogs/cats, however it is becoming very popular for babies as well which tells me there will be just as many humans named this as pets. Is this really an issue being a popular pet name? I often see this name get a lot of negativity for this reason on name boards, but should I just go with it and not worry about this?
I personally don’t see a problem with this. I had a cat and then later a friend named [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. She didn’t seem bothered, always asked how her namesake was. Pets are often given human names now, the names Spot and Fido aren’t so common for them anymore. I wouldn’t worry about it.
I wouldn’t worry about the pet name aspect too much, unless you had a personal tie to a pet [name_f]Luna[/name_f]. I love the name [name_f]Luna[/name_f], but the popularity of it for babies bothers me more than the popularity for pets. But if the popularity of it for babies doesn’t bother you, then go for it! It’s a beautiful name
It’s quite popular for baby girls right now – I don’t think anybody in real life will tell you it’s a “pet name” . Sometimes people on the internet just like to criticize I would use it!
I think it’s popular enough for babies that it’s fine to use
I personally think do what makes you happy because inevitably you’ll never be happy with any name not being a pet name and in your opinion you love the name so you should go for the name. You shouldn’t think about how other people will think about the name because it’s your child, for example there are so many names that are used on animals that are human names if we didn’t use a name bc a pet was names that there would be none left LOL
you commonly see Marley,Harley,Olive etc. Both in children and pets
also here’s some ideas If you like the “lu” I couldn’t help but to share
[name_f]Lula[/name_f]
[name_f]Tula[/name_f]
Talulah
Honestly, unless it’s Rover, or Fido, or Spot, I don’t really think any name is “just for dogs”. If you love [name_f]Luna[/name_f], then don’t feel bad about using it!
I wouldn’t worry about it. Most 2 syllable names have been used for pets. I think more about the [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] character than of [name_f]Luna[/name_f] being a pets name.
Honestly I don’t think [name_f]Luna[/name_f] being popular name for pets an issue really. I can see why it would be a concern for some and if you can’t get it out your head then I would reconsider but I feel that for you the positives outweigh this issue so I would go with [name_f]Luna[/name_f]. Also pets get named a variety of different names my dog is named [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] for example
I don’t think the “pet” aspect matters, considering it’s a very popular name for little girls right now.
I personally love the name, I would totally use it. Especially if I absolutely loved it.
I love that you named your dog [name_u]Vivian[/name_u].
The pet thing would not put me off at all. [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is a beautiful name! The rapidly growing popularity for human babies would be more likely to make me hesitate than pet popularity.
Everyone has their own associations for “human names on pets.” In my mind, this list of names is only for pets, even though I know they are perfectly acceptable for people - [name_f]Callie[/name_f], [name_u]Bailey[/name_u], [name_f]Gracie[/name_f], [name_f]Hope[/name_f], [name_u]Shelby[/name_u]
Unless you yourself have a dog that you will take to the dog park with your child often, I don’t think it matters at all…
And I only say the above because I encountered a dog with my name at the dog beach a while ago and to hear the owners shout out the name paired with “sit”, “lie down” or “come here” was really annoying (and my name isn’t very popular as a dogs’ name); however, if I weren’t around dogs a lot, I obviously wouldn’t mind this at all (and maybe it’s different if you grow up knowing dogs with your name ).
Personally, and this is just me, the popularity of [name_f]Luna[/name_f] bothers me. Fortunately though there are a few variations to pick from instead if you so desire. Of these [name_f]Lune[/name_f], [name_f]Lunette[/name_f], [name_f]Lunet[/name_f], [name_f]Eluned[/name_f], Lunaria, and [name_f]Louna[/name_f] come to mind. Out of the above I favor [name_f]Lune[/name_f]
I see it as a popular baby name more than a popular pet name. Now that there’s so many human Lunas, I don’t think the prevalence of pets matters at all.
