I’m looking for advice and opinions on choosing my daughter’s name. My husband and I are in love with the name [name_f]Lux[/name_f] and really want to call our daughter that, however we’re having some problems with it. Namely we can’t decide if it’s usable with our one-syllable last name, or whether we should put it in the first or middle name spot. [name_f]Lux[/name_f] [name_u]Bell[/name_u] is so short and really doesn’t flow very well, and while it sounds better in the middle name spot we want to call her [name_f]Lux[/name_f] either way so it’s still a problem. We really love the name and want to make it work, but we’re just not sure if it’s usable.
The second problem is middle names. We haven’t found very many that flow with [name_f]Lux[/name_f]. We want her to have a very “normal” and feminine middle name she can choose to go by just in case she really hates her unique name. Right now the only choices on our list are [name_f]Lux[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], [name_f]Lux[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Lux[/name_f] [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]. Our favorite middle name for [name_f]Lux[/name_f] is [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] but again that would sound ridiculous with the last name [name_u]Bell[/name_u]…though [name_f]Lux[/name_f] [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_u]Bell[/name_u] could be an option I suppose. Hubby also likes [name_f]Lux[/name_f] [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] which I think sounds nice, but I haven’t met a little [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] since the 80s so I don’t know if it would accomplish the goal of giving her a very common back-up name.
So we were wondering if maybe we should make [name_f]Lux[/name_f] her middle name, but still have her go by it. It feels like it would be over-complicating things to not put the name we plan to call her as her first name, but it just seems like there are lots of names that sound good in front of [name_f]Lux[/name_f] and very few that sound good after it. We really like [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], as it has family significance and would give her some cute nickname options if she wants to go by it, but [name_f]Lux[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] is a little clunky. We feel like [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_f]Lux[/name_f] flows better, but I don’t know if that’s a good enough reason to saddle her with a middle-name-as-first-name her entire life. Alternatively maybe she’d appreciate it because if she ends up hating [name_f]Lux[/name_f] she could hide it easier if it was her middle name. What are your thoughts on it? What would be the biggest pros and cons of using a middle name as a first name?

we love short, nickname names. We wanted a feminine middle name too and we went with [name_f]Lily[/name_f] after my mom. I agree that not a lot flows well with [name_f]Lux[/name_f] but by us adding the ‘L’ middle name it forces you to stop and pause to say her second name which works for us.
