Title says pretty much all. Can you please make me love [name]Lydia[/name]? It has everything that I want, but I don’t love it. Thank you.
[name]Lydia[/name] is a name I’d never really liked myself until a friend brought it up recently. I think it’s vintage but has a real modern feel about it too. It isn’t popular, I’ve literally only ever met one [name]Lydia[/name] and she’s like 22 years old so I wouldn’t worry about meeting lots of little [name]Lydia[/name]'s if popularity does bother you. I think it has the adorable nickname of Liddy (not sure on the best spelling), which is a plus. [name]Do[/name] you have a middle name in mind that you want to use? I think it flows pretty well with a lot of other names - I like combo’s such as [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Caroline[/name], [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Rose[/name], [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Violet[/name], [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Madeleine[/name], [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] etc.
What do you dislike about it?
I love [name]Lydia[/name]! She’s sweet and Biblical and charming and the sweet nn [name]Lydie[/name] is so cute. I would love to meet a little girl with the name.
I can understand your hesitation with it, though–much as I love it and I always come back to it, I never seem to be able to add it to my short list. I love the suggestions of [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Madeleine[/name] and [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]! I also love [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Sophie[/name] as a combo.
Good luck!
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Lydia[/name]. It’s such a good strong name. It reminds me of [name]Vivian[/name], for some reason I think [name]Lydia[/name] and [name]Vivian[/name] would be great for sisters. I have met one cute little girl named [name]Lydia[/name] and the name was striking cause at the time I hadn’t heard it or thought of it in years (prob not since Beetlejuice!). Now it’s the name of [name]Jack[/name]'s daughter on 30 [name]Rock[/name]. It might climb the ranks?
I guess I would describe [name]Lydia[/name] as an old-fashioned name, but not clunky / flowery / grandma-ish. Great on a baby, child (especially with nickname Lydi) and very versatile on an adult.
I really can’t help you, but thank you for starting this thread, fleurdelis. I, too, think that [name]Lydia[/name] has all the potentials to be one of my favourites, but I just don’t love it.
[name]Lydia[/name] is one of those names that I just don’t think ever would have crossed my mind, but a girl I know named her baby girl [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Paige[/name] (born Sept. 2010). She calls her Liddy, which I think is super cute! And [name]Lydia[/name] itself is quite pretty and has a classic, old-fashioned sound to it that I think ages really well. I like it, but it does seem to get forgotten for some reason…
I cannot really explain my love for [name]Lydia[/name]. I did not like it very much for a very long time - actually it was one of my LEAST favorite names ever. Then I saw a TV show in which a mother and father named their baby girl [name]Lydia[/name]. All of a sudden, I could picture a baby Lyddie, [name]Lydia[/name] in her pink dress playing in the sandbox. I think you need to try and picture a child with the name [name]Lydia[/name]. For the next two weeks, do not say “baby” or “it”, say “[name]Lydia[/name]”. Play with it, say Lyddie, say [name]Lydia[/name], picture a child, picture YOU as a child but with a name like [name]Lydia[/name]. I think it is modern but not trendy, traditional but not old lady. I think it is a lovely name, a great option for [name]Lily[/name] lovers who do not love that everyone and their mother names their child [name]Lily[/name].
This has happened to me with several names. But once I see it, I can really decide if I love it. Happened with [name]Susannah[/name], for me. On the other hand the name [name]Rose[/name] has always been a love of mine, and I have always known I would name a daughter [name]Rose[/name].
Sorry, it just doesn’t do anything for me.
I’m wondering what is it about the name that you do like? To me it is simple, strong & elegant, feminine without being tizzy, which are all qualities I love in a girl’s name, but [name]Lydia[/name] just doesn’t capture my heart.
Perhaps you could look for other names that tick the same boxes? Names that I think have a similar style, but I do love are: [name]Ingrid[/name], [name]Greta[/name], [name]Elise[/name], [name]Clara[/name] or [name]Astrid[/name]
I know a young woman names [name]Lydia[/name] and she is sweet, funny, caring and smart.
I love the name [name]Lydia[/name] its defo one of my faves. Only problem I hav with it is im scotland we tend to use an eh sound instead of the word of so every tim i mention lydia to hubby he replies lid eh a teapot coz he thinks he’s dead funny. I know that’s what she’d get called in school tho so its put me off a bit. I still think its a beautiful name tho
