[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all - this is my first time posting here. We are expecting our first baby (a girl) in [name_u]March[/name_u] and I’m having the hardest time with her name! I’ve always loved names and I can be super critical/picky. I really like classic and not over-done or trendy. DH is on the same page, thankfully!
I’ve always LOVED [name_f]Violet[/name_f], but I’m worried about the popularity. I’ve been hearing it a lot more lately and I’m afraid that it will be become the next [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. Still a classic, beautiful name - but top 10?? Give it to me straight, what do you think about [name_f]Violet[/name_f]'s likelihood to keep rising on the charts? Would this be a turn off to you?
The other option is [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]… and I really do like that one, too. I think I’m just partial to [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] is one of those names that every knows, but seems to be pretty under used - at least in the area I’m in. I like that. We like the nn [name_f]Lydie[/name_f], as well.
Middle name will be a virtue name. Last name is one syllable and starts with an S. Our options are:
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] would be my pick. I think it is a lovely name!
Admittedly I am not a [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] fan, it was overused in my area for a while and now it feels dated to me, but it is still a great name.
I do feel like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is just becoming more and more popular I am not surer it will ever be top 10, but I can see it being top 50.
I love both your middle name options! [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] and [name_u]Shalom[/name_u] are both great names!
I adore [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f], but of your two combos, [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] is far and away my favourite. I doubt that [name_f]Violet[/name_f] will suddenly reach [name_f]Lily[/name_f]'s popularity overnight, but, it’d be popular for the same reason as choices like [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], etc. - because it’s a beautiful name.
I actually love both of your combinations but I think I’d have to pick [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_u]Shalom[/name_u], because I prefer [name_u]Shalom[/name_u] to [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] as a middle name. Whichever way you end up go though, I don’t think you can lose.
Thanks for your feedback! I appreciate what you all had to say. I am obviously partial to [name_f]Violet[/name_f], so it’s nice to see that it’s rising popularity isn’t a major turn off for most of you.
I say go with [name_f]Violet[/name_f], since it is the name you obviously love. Personally I prefer to stay away from super popular names too, but if I really really love the name, I am willing to make an exception.
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] is such a beautiful and meaningful name. I think that [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_u]Shalom[/name_u] sounds a little bit aloof, not as grounded or as friendly. I also recently read on nameberry that [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] is in the Top 10 in some States, or at least one. I don’t think that [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is too popular considering how energetic and interesting it is. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know what I mean? I mean that if it were more popular than [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], I think it would deserve being that popular! Whereas I’d wonder how [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] came to be in the Top 5 if it ever got there.
I love both names. They are delightful. At one time or another in the past, I have had moments of day-dreaming about each one, wishing I could use them for a daughter. If you do contemplate using [name_u]Shalom[/name_u], I would just double check that it is not a tongue twister with your S surname. I do not consider either one too popular or in danger of rising much higher.
