Thoughts on Lydon for a boy? I like the sound of it, but I’m worried that it may be too surnamey and not established enough. Would it constantly be mistaken as [name]Lyndon[/name]?
While I like the sound of Lydon, I wouldn’t use it myself due to its strong association with former Sex Pistol punk rocker [name]Johnny[/name] Rotten (aka [name]John[/name] Lydon). In the US, it would probably be mistaken for [name]Lyndon[/name].
[name]Ah[/name], I knew of the [name]Johnny[/name] Rotten association and was hoping that most people would only know of him by his stage name so that the name wouldn’t be too tied to him, but it’s very possible that the association there may be too strong.
I like it. It’s like [name]Lydia[/name], but more masculine. In my holiday I visited a place called Lydney and thought that would make a nice name, kind of like [name]Sydney[/name].
Hold on, is it pronounced LID-un or [name]LY[/name]-dun?
Lydon is pronounced “[name]LY[/name]-dun”.
Yes, this is how I was pronouncing it.
Thank you. [name]LY[/name]-dun is easier to say than LID-un. I don’t think it’s too surnamey that way either.
So when I read the title of your post I read it as [name]Lyndon[/name]. Lydon isn’t bad, but that might give you an idea of what could happen if you used it.
