I recognise that I am in the minority with my love for the name [name]Lynn[/name].
I understand that people feel it was the [name]Rose[/name] of a fw generations ago, the “go-to-middle-name”, but i cannot deny that i love the idea of a baby [name]Lynn[/name].
My question for you berries is: can [name]Lynn[/name] stand on her own, or should she be a nick name?
I am on the fence with [name]Evelyn[/name] but don’t like the idea of [name]Linda[/name] or [name]Gwendolyn[/name].
Suggestions?
I would MUCH rather meet a baby [name]Lynn[/name] than one more baby [name]Sophia[/name] or [name]Ava[/name]. Yes, [name]Lynn[/name] seems a little “common,” mainly because we know so many people in our generation with the mn [name]Lynn[/name]/[name]Lynne[/name]. But I think it would be rather fresh as a first name, sort of on par with [name]Anne[/name] and [name]Marie[/name].
While I find it dated, as most adults my moms age seem to have this middle name, I think in the first name spot it might seem much fresher. I think it works fine on it’s own, but I’ll give you some suggestions for full names anyway.
All of these contain the [name]Lyn[/name] sound ([name]Lin[/name], [name]Len[/name], [name]Lyn[/name] etc)
[name]Glynnis[/name] – holy, fair one
[name]Ashlyn[/name]
[name]Cherilyn[/name]/[name]Sherilyn[/name]
[name]Falyn[/name]
Faelyn
Gwenlyn
[name]Jocelyn[/name] – my favorite
[name]Katelyn[/name] (or any of it’s various spellings)
[name]Lynette[/name]
[name]Marilyn[/name]
Rhoslyn
[name]Rosalyn[/name]
Telyn
[name]Teralyn[/name]
I think [name]Lynn[/name] is lovely! I like it on its own, but it could also work as a nickname for a variety of names. I would love to meet a little girl named [name]Lynn[/name]!
It’s a Welsh name, meaning ‘lake.’ 70 years ago it was exotic and smooth, in a world of Dorothys and [name]Marys[/name]. Then along came [name]Linda[/name], and it gained immediate overnight credibility. And it might surprise you to know that it was originally exclusively a boy’s name.
It’s too bad that it was used so long as a filler, because that’s detracted from its luster. It would be lovely on its own… it conjures up images of a quiet green valley, ringed with old mountains and mist.
Thank you all so much for the positive response to [name]Lynn[/name], I thought I’d be met with a wall of “boring/plain/dated”
I love the suggestion of [name]Linnea[/name] very much!
I also adore [name]Valentina[/name] and [name]Helen[/name] but i feel it could be a bit of a stretch, my own name is [name]Aisling[/name] so I’m not sure that [name]Ashlyn[/name] would work
I absolutely love [name]Lynn[/name]. I also like it spelled [name]Lynne[/name] and I knew a twelve-year-old girl with the name and she wore it very well. I also like [name]Linnea[/name], but [name]Lynn[/name] is very pretty on its own too.
