Mabel or other?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all. First time poster here. [name_f]My[/name_f] daughter age (5) is called [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]. I love the name [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] and really wanted to call our first daughter this, however hubby was not ready for it. This time he is open to it, but neither set of grandparents like it.

[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] & [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]. Vs something else. Is it too old fashioned. Are they just not bold enough?

Other names I have toyed with:

  • [name_u]Florence[/name_u] (also love but hate the nicknames)
  • [name_f]Ada[/name_f] (but lots of [name_f]Eva[/name_f] and Ava’s out there)
  • [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]

Are there any others you recommend? [name_u]Or[/name_u] just rock the double M names??

Thanks in advance

[name_f]Nina[/name_f]

I absolutely LOVE [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] together, frankly I’ll be disappointed if you don’t go for it! :joy:

[name_f]My[/name_f] cousin’s baby is called [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] and it’s such a cool name on a kid. I love names with a vintage vibe and this is definitely one that’s making a comeback :two_hearts: I say go for it!

I think [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] work great together! They feel similar but not TOO similar. I love it!

[name_f]My[/name_f] second choice would be [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] but I like [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] the best.

[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] will always feel like the name of a crazy but kind teenager to me because that’s the name of one of my friends. It does sound slightly old-ladyish but when people get to know her the connotations aren’t too strong to be overwritten.

[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] are adorable together! I love [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] & [name_u]Florence[/name_u] too!

I adore [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]! So cosy, warm and bubbly!!

[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_u]Florence[/name_u] and [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] are gorgeous too!

You might like [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_u]Hazel[/name_u], [name_u]Abilene[/name_u], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] or [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]

Hi there! Congratulations on the upcoming arrival of your second daughter!

Matilda is incredibly darling. It is a long time love of mine.
I have to agree that Mabel might not have the sweetness and spunk that Matilda carries. Yet, it does have a vintage charm where I can see why you do love it. I can tell you love it, but I am cautious to urge you to use it as it doesn’t seem your husband loves and grandparents don’t love either.
I don’t want you to question or regret your choice if others are already voicing their opinion.
Also, while Mabel seems simple enough, since it is such a vintage name, I could see people either liking it or not. Really no middle ground.

These come to mind as a sister to Matilda:

Annabel
Eloise
Greta
Hattie
Hazel
Heidi
June
Juniper
Lucy
Margot
Olive
Penelope
Rose/Rosemary/Rosie
Ruth
Tabitha
Vivian

I think the fact that they both start with “Ma-” & have a sharp L sound it them doesn’t make them go well as sisters.

I love the name [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] and feel that it would be absolutely adorable on a child- not to mention how well it goes with [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]!

They’re cute! I like [name_f]Merida[/name_f] since it’s the same number of syllables, has a M, D, and A in it, and I think it’s different enough from Maltilda.:sparkles:

It sounds like you really love [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]! I think you should go for it! In my mind the Ma- sound is a sweet commonality.

I absolutely love Matilda and think Mabel is really sweet with it. In saying that, my top choice from the names on your list would be Beatrix - Beatrix and Matilda are gorgeous together! They’re both strong and spunky and have a whimsical quality I love.

My second choice would be Ada. I love its brevity and its Victorian feel and even though it’s similar to the Ava/Eva category of names, it still feels distinctive.

Florence and Maeve are also really lovely. You have great taste!

[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] are great. I’d stick with it. [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] for a second choice.

I do love [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] but it’s a little too close to [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] I think. How about [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]?

I think [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] are adorable!! One slight thing is to make sure they don’t have the exact same initials regarding middle names.

love [name_u]Florence[/name_u] have you thought about the nicknames Rennie,Lori,Cece?

I saw the 5 year old [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] that I know today, so I am going to take this a sign to encourage you to use [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]!

Similar to what @Laurenabbey has suggested, do you like [name_u]Ren[/name_u] for [name_u]Florence[/name_u], or [name_f]Floss[/name_f]?

I love [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]! I wanted to use it if my last one was a girl (it wasn’t) but DH couldn’t get on board. I think [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] are adorable together.

I understand being concerned that the grandparents don’t like it, but after all it is your baby and you get to do the naming! I say go for it!

Of your other options, I do like [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] the best. I love [name_f]Ada[/name_f] too, but like you said it is getting more and more popular.

I sat rock the double Ms!

[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] are darling together. I like that they share the Ma sound but are different enough in sound and style without being mismatched.

I like [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] together! Another idea is [name_f]Mabli[/name_f], which is the Welsh form of [name_f]Mabel[/name_f].

I really like Matilda and Mabel as sisters! That is so charming… they fit together just beautifully. Made to go together.
