We are tied between [name]Mabel[/name] and [name]Rosamund[/name] now. To help us decide: What sort of person do you imagine having each name? We are thinking of using the nicknames [name]Mae[/name] and [name]Rosa[/name] respectively. So, who is [name]Rosamund[/name]? [name]Mabel[/name]? [name]Rosa[/name]? [name]Mae[/name]?
I’ve never understood picturing people when you hear a name because anyone can wear any name, but I’ll tell you how they sound to me.
[name]Rosamund[/name] sounds exotic and sweet, and [name]Rosa[/name] sounds sweet and perfect on a little girl.
[name]Mabel[/name] sounds more vintage, but still sweet and very adorable and [name]Mae[/name] is gorgeous for child too.
Of the 2, I prefer [name]Mabel[/name] (and I like the “creative misspelling” [name]Maybelle[/name]) but i prefer the nn [name]Rosa[/name]. If you could do [name]Mabel[/name] [name]Rosamund[/name] that would be perfect!
[name]Hi[/name] there, I prefer [name]Rosa[/name] to [name]Rosamund[/name] as I know a lady called [name]Rosamund[/name] and she’s not quite all there, I also dislike the “mund” part of the name. I imagine a [name]Rosa[/name] to be italian/european, a dark haired and sweet girl. Not keen on [name]Mabel[/name] but like [name]Mae[/name], can’t imagine what kind of girl as I think this name suits many types.
[name]Mabel[/name] nn [name]Mae[/name] is my absolute favorite!
[name]Mabel[/name] is a beautiful underused classic vintage name! I’d imagine a [name]Mabel[/name] to be smart, sweet, and a little quiet, but spunky and a little sassy at the same time. The nickname [name]Mae[/name] would be adorable.
With [name]Rosamund[/name],I’d imagine the same things. The name [name]Rosamund[/name] is strong and feminine. I love the nickname [name]Rosa[/name], because I feel it balances [name]Rosamund[/name] out. [name]Rosamund[/name] is lovely, but I think it’s the mund part that looks slightly harsh to me.
I prefer [name]Rosamund[/name] with [name]Florence[/name] and [name]Dorothy[/name], mostly because I don’t really have a relationship to [name]Mabel[/name]. [name]Rosamund[/name] is great with [name]Florence[/name] and [name]Dorothy[/name].
Tough call, they’re both just lovely. I think [name]Mabel[/name] nn [name]Mae[/name] wins slightly for me though. I can see [name]Mae[/name] as sweet and spunky, but also grown up.
[name]Mabel[/name] nn [name]Mae[/name] = sweet, vintage, down-to-earth, spunky and sassy
[name]Rosamund[/name] nn [name]Rosa[/name] = ladylike, elegant, sophisticated, chic, upper class
I love both names for the different reasons stated above. I think the more friendlier [name]Mabel[/name] is a “natural fit” with [name]Dorothy[/name] and [name]Florence[/name]. [name]Rosamund[/name] gives off a slightly posher vibe and as a result sounds less approachable and a touch standoffish. Does that make sense?
I like them both. [name]Rosamund[/name] would make a fantastic middle name. I prefer [name]Mabel[/name] for a first name. [name]Love[/name] [name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Rosamund[/name] all the way! It’s so versatile. [name]Rosamund[/name] is serious yet almost smells like roses when you say it. The peppery hot pink roses you find on the beach. [name]Rosa[/name] is adorable and a bit Spanish-spicy without being awkwardly so. Altogether, it works on a little girl or an adult… and when she’s a teenager she can listen to the Pixies’ “Surfer [name]Rosa[/name]” and feel all rebellious and cool.
[name]Mabel[/name] just makes me think of marmalade. I generally like geezer-names, but this one feels excessively quaint to me. [name]Mae[/name] is divine though!
[name]LOVE[/name] [name]Mabel[/name] nn [name]Mae[/name]. [name]One[/name] of my absolute favourite first and nn combos. [name]Mabel[/name] is classy and quirky at the same time while [name]Mae[/name] is cute and beautiful, not an easy combo.
I don’t really like [name]Rosa[/name] as I prefer [name]Rose[/name]. And I dislike [name]Rosamund[/name], I find it awkward to say and clunky looking. It feels very Spanish or exotic.
I like [name]Rosamund[/name] so much more than [name]Mabel[/name], but I like the nn [name]Mae[/name] way more than [name]Rosa[/name]. If I had to pick I would go with [name]Rosamund[/name]. It is sweet, vintage and definitely unique, although I would probably just call her [name]Rose[/name].
Thankyou all very much! Interesting how peoples perceptions of names differ. We have already decided her middle name will be [name]Gloria[/name] - it would have been her first name had our surname not been Churchyard!
