Macaulay?

Boys names are something never far from my mind these days, and today whilst watching Home Alone on tv - I started thinking about the name “[name]Macaulay[/name]”.

For a while in early pregnancy, I had been considering using a [name]Mack[/name] name to honour my own surname ([name]McLean[/name] - nickname has always been [name]Mack[/name]!) and had briefly considered both [name]Mackenzie[/name] and [name]Mckinley[/name] for a son but went off both of them quite quickly.

So [name]Macaulay[/name] got me wondering - I think its a lovely sounding name, but will it forever be solely associated with [name]Macaulay[/name] Culkin? Is it unusable now?

I don’t think I would end up using it personally, but I still wondered what other peoples thought were :slight_smile:

I think it is totally useable, and I love it! I am a huge sucker for “[name]Mac[/name]” names: [name]Macaulay[/name], [name]Malcolm[/name], [name]Cormac[/name], etc. They’re all contenders if we ever have a boy.

It’s useable, but not for you! Unless you end up having three little boys of course.

I’ve never watched Home Alone or anything else with that little blondie, so I don’t see him as a big association.

When I first read your post, I have to admit I did immediately think of [name]Macaulay[/name] Culkin, but then I started saying it to myself and it quickly grew on me. I think I associate the name with [name]Macaulay[/name] Culkin because I don’t know anyone else by that name [name]IRL[/name]. If I had a real life association, the Culkin association would fade. It is a nice name. I think it’s useable.

I’ve actually grown up with a girl named [name]Macaulay[/name], so for me it’s totally usable! However, I’ve known her since I was about three years old- long before I knew who [name]Macaulay[/name] Culkin was haha. I think once you know someone long enough [name]IRL[/name], you no longer realize the celebrity connotation.

I also know a little girl named [name]Macaulay[/name]. The association to Culkin was quickly lost.

I don’t tie it solely to Culkin, and I love the Home Alone movies. [name]Macaulay[/name] would be great for a boy. I’ve considered it myself (Cauley is a family name).

When I was a kid, I was obsessed with Home Alone, but [name]Macaulay[/name] Culkin isn’t nearly as famous now, so while older people might make that association, I doubt anyone from your son’s generation would.

Yeah [name]Macauley[/name] Culkin lost a lot of the limelight once he grew out of his Home Alone phase.

I think the name could really do with more using. it’s very distinguished.

I really like [name]Macauley[/name], and I like that you have opted for the original spelling. Unfortunately, I know of 4 with horrible phonetic spellings such as Macorley and Macorlee so the name has been ruined to me.

I really [name]McKinley[/name] for a boy though!
