Macho and not so Macho: Rugby Wrold Cup Names!

My two guilty pleasures in life are Names and [name]Rugby[/name], and as of last Monday, all 30 man squads for the countries participating in this Septembers Rugby World Cup in New Zealand were realised.

Naturally I looked though the squads and took a deep interest in many of the names. As I’ve loved rugby for years, most of the names were familiar and a few are even on my personal list due to their connection with a famous rugby player e.g. [name]Quade[/name], [name]Alun[/name].

However, as I’m from [name]Ireland[/name] some, of the names from more foreign countries, such as Namibia and South Africa, intrigued me. I made a list of my favourites from each country. Cutting some down to two per country was hard, particularly Australia, Namibia and South Africa.

Also, traditional girl’s names given to the most macho of sports men e.g [name]Courtney[/name], [name]Maxime[/name] and [name]Leigh[/name], this just proves that gender crossing doesn’t scar a man for life.

Here is my list of favourites by country:
