I adore the name Macsen, it’s even on my list! It’s a familiar but not overused name here in [name]Wales[/name]. I first heard it in a song called Yma o hyd by [name]Dafydd[/name] [name]Iwan[/name] (There’s an English translation on the Internet to find out what the song is about.) The reason for the ‘tryndii’ spelling is because in [name]Wales[/name] there is no x in the Welsh alphabet so it’s replaced with the letter c, which sounds the same.
I think it sounds great with your other children’s names, and I would encourage you to use it if you like it.
It may have history, but I think the problem for the modern eye is that it’s not an intuitive spelling for those sounds. I think it’s a dreadful name, but if I had to suggest a spelling that would bring on the least eyerolls, it would be [name]Maxon[/name]. In my opinion this seems like the most intuitive, least problematic way of getting to those sounds.
Macsen looks super trendy and made up. I am not a fan of names that look misspelled. I love [name]Maxim[/name]…now that is a legitimate name. It means “greatest”.
I prned it at first as a weird spelling of [name]Mason[/name].
