Madeleine debate!

We are having twins girls and my husband is in love with the name [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]/Madelyn. The name for our other twin will be [name_f]Emilia[/name_f].

Which spelling do you prefer/thinks works best with the name [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]- [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]? We don’t want to go with [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] since we don’t want it mispronounced as mad-e-LINE.

Do you think these names work well for a twin set?

I love the [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] spelling! Classy!

Definitely [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]! It feels more elegant and classic!

I’ve never met a [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] who said it -line and I’ve never met a [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] who said it -lyn. This name and its spellings are just anarchy so I think you should go with what you like best. [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] is the most aesthetically appealing to me.

If you want the -lyn pronunciation I’d go with [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f], even though I prefer the look of [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]. But I’d wager she will constantly have to correct people with that spelling, so go with the most intuitive option.

Madelyn and [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] are lovely together! Congratulations on your girls :yellow_heart:

Madeleine. Classic, sweet, strong, etc. It works/ looks best with [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] and doesn’t look “trendy” like the -lyn spelling.

I strongly the [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] spelling! Although, I pronounce [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] and [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] differently. To me, [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]=mad-uh-len and [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f]=mad-uh-lyn. Small difference, but it’s still there.

Me too.

I prefer [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f], especially with [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], but if it’s the -lyn pronunciation you want then I’d definitely go with the -lyn spelling.

Visually, I think [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] and [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] work best, but as others have said, it depends on what pronunciation you want as I too pronounce [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] and [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] differently.

I normally much prefer [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] but I pronounce it as mad-uh-len, so [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] seems more intuitive in this case.

I prefer the [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] spelling - it’s classy, timeless, and elegant, and goes perfectly with [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]. For what it’s worth, I know four Madeleines (this spelling), and all pronounce it the same as [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f].

To get the pronunciation you want I would spell it [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f], although [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] is my preference.

Madelyn and [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] are amazing names for twins! Congratulations!

[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] definitely!

[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] is a beautiful and sweet combination

[name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] has a different vibe to [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] and to [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]

How to you pronounce [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]? In the UK it’s pronounced Mad-eh/uh-lin

Definitely [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]! I wanted to see how people pronounce it on forvo.com and everyone (British and American) pronounced it with a -lyn ending.

Emilia and [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f]/Madeleine make such a lovely sibset. I prefeer the [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] spelling, but if the pronunciation of -lyn instead of -line is important enough to nix [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], I’d also nix [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] as it’s pronunciation is so ambiguous.

I find it really interesting you all think [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] is confusing. All the Mad-uh-lins I know spell it [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f], and never have any problem with spelling or pronunciation
