Madeleine or Genevieve?

[name_f]My[/name_f] sister is having a baby girl soon and loves the name [name_f]Ella[/name_f], but can’t decide if she should use [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] or [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] as her middle name. We’re [name_m]French[/name_m] so the names will be pronounced Mad-uh-layne and Zhahn-vee-ev. Any other suggestions are welcome <3

Definitely [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], as [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] is a little too “l” heavy. [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is beautiful.

[name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is my vote, it’s lovely.

+1. Totally agree.

[name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] of course!
But I’m confused. Wouldn’t you pronounce [name_m]French[/name_m] [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] roughly “mad-uh-[name_m]LEN[/name_m]” with the middle syllable barely-there?

[name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] is beautiful.

[name_m]Both[/name_m] are gorgeous. I don’t find [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] too L heavy. But I love the [name_m]French[/name_m] prn of [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]. Can’t go wrong with either choice.

I love [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], especially with that pronunciation.

[name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]

I prefer [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f], as I’ve had a horrible experience with a [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] before, but [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] sounds more “right” than [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f].

[name_m]Both[/name_m] are gorgeous! I was going to say [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f], because I detest the English pronunciation of [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], but since that’s a nonissue, I can’t even decide.

[name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]!

Yes it is Mad-uh-lehn, but I put -layne so it wouldn’t be confused with Mad-uh-[name_u]LYNN[/name_u]. I really don’t like the “[name_f]Madelyn[/name_f]” spellings or pronunciations although I am fine with Mad-uh-line, but yes, you’re right  Thanks everyone for your responses!

[name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is absolutely stunning!!

Thanks for clearing up the pronunciation  You really can’t go wrong here, excellent choices. Best of luck!

I have been in love with the [name_m]French[/name_m] prn. of [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] since hearing it in high school [name_m]French[/name_m] class (which was a long long long time ago). Another vote for [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] here. It just feels so much fresher than [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] also – I can’t tell you how many little [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]/[name_f]Madelyn[/name_f]/etc., nn “[name_f]Maddie[/name_f]” I’ve run into. Not that it would matter much as a middle. Still, [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] wins for me.

[name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] by far.

Oh I know! [name_f]My[/name_f] heart drops a little when I hear another [name_f]Maddie[/name_f]! Why name your child one thing and forever call her something else? Either name her [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] or call her by her full name and let her decide if she wants to go by a nickname

[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]!
