Madeleine or Madeline?

I want the name to be said as mad-uh-line, like the little girl from [name_u]Paris[/name_u], not mad-uh-lynn. [name_m]How[/name_m] would you spell it to make that clear?

[name_f]Madeline[/name_f]. [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] would either be ma-de-len (english) or mahd-len (french) so neither would get you to the pronunciation you want.
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] makes the most sense and I’m actually not understanding why people would pronounce it ma-de-lyn in the first place.

Go with [name_f]Madeline[/name_f].
I agree with above posters comment- [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] is mad-Eh-lehn.

[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] for sure, I would pronounce [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] like Mad-uh-lyn.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] an FYI. I know several [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]'s that prn it Mad uh [name_u]Lynn[/name_u].

I prefer the spelling [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] over [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]. [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] is very elegant, [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], not so much. However, if you want the name to be pronounced as Made-line, choose [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] as [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] will be pronounced as Made-leen.

I don’t think that either spelling will make it clear to people how you want it pronounced. You’ll have to correct people either way, so I’d just pick the spelling that you prefer. [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] would be my choice.

I agree with boyandgirl! [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] is mad-eh-lin to me. [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] is my favorite

That is the only way to pronounce [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] anyway. The -line ending is the correct spelling. For Mad-uh-lynn it would be spelt [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Madalyn[/name_f]

It looks prettier without the “E”

Agreed! Sometimes I wish Nameberry had a like button. :]

I would definitely spell it [name_f]Madeline[/name_f].
