I’m having a really hard time picking between these 2 names. I love both. My concern with [name]Madeleine[/name] is that the spelling may be confusing but I prefer it to the popular [name]Madelyn[/name] spelling. I want it pronounced Mad-e -lin. The spelling [name]Madeline[/name] seems to be prounced with the ending [name]LINE[/name].
Any thoughts?
That’s a really tough call. I adore both names, but I’m more inclined to say [name]Madeleine[/name]. For the simple fact that you would spell it [name]Madeleine[/name]. As for the pronunciation, I’m sure it would catch on after simply saying it the correct way.
I actually really love them together - [name]Olivia[/name] [name]Madeleine[/name].
Hmm. I think plenty of Madelines are out there with the [name]Madelyn[/name] prn, and when I see the name spelled that way, that’s what I assume at least. The storybook character [name]Madaline[/name] I think I’ve read has the “line” prn, but I’m not sure - but I take that as a flukey thing. I think the spelling [name]Madeleine[/name] is lovely, it is a little less familiar here, but this is a name she’s probably going to have to spell regardless of which one you go with, since all 3 are in use, so I don’t think [name]Madeleine[/name] is any worse than [name]Madeline[/name] in that regard. I think with [name]Madeline[/name]/[name]Madelyn[/name] being so popular, people are going to look at [name]Madeleine[/name] and say the prn you want. They MIGHT occasionally say Madelen or Madelane, neither of which is awful, and easily correctable, as the pp said.
Anyway, I really like both names, both are very in style of course. I like [name]Madeleine[/name] a touch better for what are basically entirely personal reasons so I won’t spell them out. Are you planning on future names? If it’s coming down to these two, you could plan on what goes better with other names you might consider then. Although both will go with a wide range of names.

I like both names but I prefer [name]Madeleine[/name]. This is a very classy French spelling and it looks more polished than [name]Madeline[/name] in my opinion. I think you should choose the [name]Madeleine[/name] spelling if you want to pronounce it like Mad-e -lin. You may have to correct people at first but they’ll soon get the hang of it! Good luck!
