I really love the name [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f], and I really like the french spelling of it. I’m worried about pronunciation though, i want it to be pronounced mad-eh-len or mad-eh-lyn. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think people will get the pronunciation wrong most of the time? If I don’t go with the [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] spelling it will be [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f], which I don’t like as much. My other daughters name is [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] which is the french spelling as well. I live in the [name_m]Pacific[/name_m] Northwest, if that helps at all. Thanks!!!

[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] 100%! I think most people know how to pronounce it and if not, you just correct them one time & it’s fine. It’s not a totally unintuitive pronunciation. [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] & [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] are gorgeous!!

[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] is far and away my favorite spelling (our daughter is [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]).

I pronounce it mad-eh-len.

I would assume [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] is -line at first, though no pronunciation would throw me off. (I’m also [name_m]Pacific[/name_m] Northwest.) I have a friend named [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] who pronounces it with a -line ending, and no one ever remembers to get that right. But the other way around, remembering -leine = -lyn is not that hard.

[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] is a beautiful name and fits perfectly with [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]. However if you are worried about mispronunciation you could drop the e and turn it into [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]. This is very much like [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] and still has the same feel. :slight_smile:

I think [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] works great. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if people pronounce it wrong a simple correction would fix it.

I absolutely love the name [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f], and I far prefer that spelling to [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f]. Plus, your other daughter’s name is [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] (another beautiful [name_m]French[/name_m] name) so they fit perfectly :slight_smile:
