[name]Madeline[/name] was born (very quickly!) on 1/19/12, at 9:35 PM. She joins big brother [name]Seth[/name] [name]Andrew[/name], 4. After a 3 day stay in NICU for some relatively minor issues, we are so happy to be home with our healthy baby girl.
A big thank you to all the Berries who helped me narrow down and select a name. We were between [name]Madeline[/name] (prn’d with a long i sound) and [name]Juliana[/name], but ultimately, after everything that happened, we decided [name]Madeline[/name] had a little more spunk and strength (meaning: high tower, as in tower of strength, in my mind!) and we went with it. It fits so well; we plan to call her [name]Madeline[/name], but have already occasionally used [name]Mads[/name] and Madsie as nns.
[name]Frances[/name] is the name of my dear grandmother, who is over the moon with our choice, and [name]Treat[/name] is my maiden name. Many thanks to the Berries for their thoughts on the double mn, which I had never even considered before! DH and I are so happy with the name, and I feel a real pride every time I say it, think it or hear it. Big brother continues to persist that her name is “Spygirl,” and we are loving that too. Thanks again.
Awww, congratulations! I’ve been wondering what you would decide (and praying the decision would be easy! … and that little [name]Madeline[/name] would be healthy!), but for some reason had thought you’d still lean toward [name]Juliana[/name]! I think [name]Madeline[/name] is lovely, though, and [name]Seth[/name] and [name]Madeline[/name] are adorable together!
Congratulations on your daughter, and all the best to your family!
Thank you! @shieldsc: I am still indebted to you for the suggestion of the nn Madsie. I think it is adorable, and it fits this little girl as far as nns go! So thank you, thank you, thank you!
@ash: After she was born, I thought [name]Juliana[/name], but that was before I got to hold her or even really see her (since she was whisked off to the NICU). After I had a chance to really look at her, and then interact with her, I just kept thinking [name]Madeline[/name]. I had this part of the children’s book running thru my head, “She was not afraid of mice, she loved winter, snow and ice. To the tiger in the zoo, [name]Madeline[/name] just said, ‘Pooh, pooh.’” That, coupled with the fact that [name]Madeline[/name] means “high tower,” which makes me think of strength, was the decider. Seeing her lying there all hooked up to monitors, and with this little dignified, tough expression on her face, let me know she was going to need a spunky, strong name. I have even tried to imagine if we had named her [name]Juliana[/name] (or anything else), but I just can’t feature it, and that makes me feel good–like we made the right choice! Thanks for your prayers!
Aww, that’s such a cute story and I’m sure she will appreciate it one day! I’m sure she’ll love having the [name]Madeline[/name] story to relate to, too!
It sounds like you’re so happy with your decision, which I’m glad for! It sounded like you were a bit worried about the decision before she arrived. And pshh, I’m always happy to pray.
