Madeline

I used to be absolutely in love with the name [name]Madeline[/name] (lynn ending!) until it got kind of popular, do you think [name]Madeline[/name] is too popular? (Along with other spellings [name]Madelyn[/name], [name]Madalyn[/name], etc) [name]Do[/name] you see it getting more popular?

What nickname possibilities are there? Aside from [name]Maddy[/name].

I think [name]Madelyn[/name] is popular, but if you went with -line, it’s not so much. [name]Madeline[/name] (line ending) is uncommon and I prefer it because of the little girl dressed in yellow.

I love [name]Madeline[/name], it’s a beautiful name that isn’t common where I am.

I only know of one [name]Madeleine[/name] (lynn sound ending) and she’s like 24 years old. I’ve never met a [name]Madeline[/name] (line ending).

Sadly, the modern spelling of [name]Madelyn[/name] has now surpassed [name]Madeline[/name] and [name]Madeleine[/name] in US popularity according to the SSA 2011 ratings. For all three spellings, there were a total of 7,967 girls with this name (compare that to [name]Sophia[/name] which was No# 1 at 21,697 girls). Nickname possibilities include [name]Elle[/name], [name]Del[/name], [name]Addie[/name], [name]Lynn[/name] or Leine if you choose the [name]Madeleine[/name] spelling.

[name]Madelyn[/name] - No# 79 (3,587 girls) - I can see this getting more popular along with [name]Adalyn[/name]/[name]Adelyn[/name]. The nn [name]Maddie[/name] and “lyn” endings seem to appeal to more parents. The trendy “y” really changes the whole charm of the name for me.

[name]Madeline[/name] - No# 85 (3,403 girls) - This may jump too in the years to come but people seem to favour the “lyn” ending instead of “line”.

[name]Madeleine[/name] (my fave is this French spelling) - No# 319 (977 girls) - The least popular spelling is the most classic and polished looking in my opinion.

I think it is a pretty name but also very popular. I think the [name]Madeleine[/name] spelling, and the pronunciation (Mad-a-leen) is most unique. I also love the (Mad-a-line) pronunciation, but so many pronounce it (Mad-a-lyn).

I like [name]Madeline[/name] but also worry it’s too popular. My husband is detrmined to use this name for our little girl due in [name]December[/name] but I want something more unique. [name]Madeline[/name] is a beautiful name though and it’s not super popular, just not as unique as I want. As for nicknames, all I could ever come up with is [name]Maddie[/name].

I love the [name]Madeleine[/name] spelling. This was on our first name list until a friend used Addelyn. I was planning on calling her [name]Madeleine[/name] or maybe [name]Maddie[/name]-[name]Rose[/name]([name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Rose[/name] was my combo). I tried coming up with alternative nicknames too and I liked the double barrel one best. You could do [name]Lyn[/name] or [name]Dee[/name], maybe. Despite its popularity, I still like it. I just wasn’t a huge fan of just [name]Maddie[/name]. If you went with the french spelling and pronunciation of [name]Madeleine[/name] (Mad-eh-len) you could maybe do [name]Lenny/name

I like [name]Madeline[/name] [name]Grace[/name] b/c [name]Grace[/name] has meaning for me and nn [name]Maddie[/name] [name]Grace[/name]. Similar to PP suggestion. [name]Just[/name] another idea. I love the idea of [name]Maddie[/name]-[name]Rose[/name] or something else like this.

My favorite spelling is [name]Madeline[/name]. However, with all the spellings being so similar in sound to most people I personally find the name a little too popular - it doesn’t help that I’m not huge on M names to begin with. I think I know about 5 [name]Maddy[/name]'s (Age range from 4-25).

I like Maddie-Rose or Maddie-Grace but if you want her name to be a little more unique.
Madeline Grey (Maddie-Grey)
Madeline Fiona (Maddie-Fee)
Madeline Isla (Maddie-Isla)

[name]Madeline[/name] is [name]Madeline[/name], no matter how you spell it. Spelling it differently doesn’t make it a different name. It’s still pronounced [name]Madeline[/name].

[name]Madeline[/name] is pretty popular, but it’s also a classic name, and will probably be somewhat always around, much like [name]Jacqueline[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Caroline[/name], etc.

I’m 27 and I know a ton of Madelines.

At 24, I also know several Madelines of a variety of ages. I agree with cj85 that changing the spelling can make it look less trendy, but that the name [name]Madalyn[/name] is [name]Madeline[/name] is [name]Madeleine[/name] (and [name]Madilyn[/name] and Maddilyn and Madilynne…). Numbers-wise, it’s not as big as [name]Sophia[/name], but I think that it’s notable that eight different spellings of [name]Madeline[/name] are in the Top 1000. I also agree that it’s a classic, so it might be popular, but it’s pretty and timeless, too. If you love [name]Madeline[/name], I think it should go on the list! You could use [name]Addie[/name], [name]Della[/name], [name]Lina[/name] or [name]Linny[/name], [name]Madge[/name], or [name]Mae[/name].

If you are looking for names like [name]Madeline[/name], here are some that I find soft, feminine, old-fashioned and on the longer side:

[name]Adeline[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name] or [name]Coraline[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name]
[name]Evangeline[/name]
[name]Jacqueline[/name]
[name]Gwendolyn[/name]
[name]Natalie[/name] or [name]Natalia[/name]
[name]Cecile[/name], [name]Cecilia[/name], or [name]Cecily[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Mirabel[/name] or [name]Annabelle[/name]
[name]Lucille[/name]
[name]Corinne[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Jessamine[/name]
[name]Helena[/name]

[name]Madeline[/name] even if it became popular would be a big improvement as it has a classic look (like [name]Caroline[/name]), so use it if you love it.

Madeleine is actually prn “mad eh lehn” which is somewhat close to the “lynn” prn, you’re right about the [name]Madeline[/name] prn though, instead of “een” people tend to say it like “[name]LINE[/name]” or “lynn”

I love [name]Madeleine[/name] (with the lynn sound) and I have never met anyone with this name, and I am a substitute teacher now and have ran a Pre-K in the past so I don’t see it as popular at all! My top choice for a girl in fact is [name]Clara[/name] [name]Madeleine[/name] On the flip side I know 3 Madelines (with the [name]Line[/name] ending) one is propbably around 10 and the others are 4-5.

My pet peeve is [name]Madeline[/name] pronounced Mad-uh-lynn, not Mad-uh-[name]LINE[/name]! I’m a teacher and there’s so many of them running around and I just always think the name is spelled wrong.
I much prefer [name]Madeleine[/name], pronounced Mad-uh-lynn.
