Madelyn and Adeline too close to friend's baby girl Addelyn?

I have [name]Madelyn[/name] and [name]Adeline[/name] on my list for girls, we will be trying for baby #2 soon, but one of my pretty good friends just had a baby girl and didn’t announce her name until a day after her birth and it is Addelyn [name]Elise[/name]. [name]Adeline[/name] is probably too close, just the difference in the ending, but still too similar for me to use right? And [name]Madelyn[/name] rhymes, would that also be too close? I wouldn’t use the nickname [name]Maddie[/name] and I’m not sure if she is going to use [name]Addie[/name]. Right now [name]Madelyn[/name] isn’t my top name choice but my husband does like it more than some of my others so it could definitely be an option. Would you cut both from your list? If I had a girl, she would be relatively close in age to Addelyn and would be in the nursery at church together, and we do get together fairly often, etc…But we aren’t like best friends. Advice?

I think that when it’s a friend who uses a name, it doesn’t matter what name you use as long as it’s not the same. I will admit that [name]Adeline[/name] may be too close, but [name]Madelyn[/name]'s a winner! I love the name [name]Madeline[/name]!

I think they might both be too close especially if you are good friends. If you name her [name]Madelyn[/name] it’ll rhyme with Addelyn and you might get the two confused when you are together… if you don’t plan on being close later, then I don’t see the problem…

[name]Madeline[/name] would be a good alternative.

Since youre not BFF with this lady, I’d just say something casually like, Hey, I just want you to know that we’ve had these names on our list forever and I don’t want you to feel like I’m copying you, but we may end up with daughters with similar names. No apologies, just an FYI. Then use what you like best, tho I do agree with pps that [name]Madeline[/name] is a great alternative, and not just bc it’s my own DDs name. you never know, these ppl may move away from you next month. [name]Don[/name]'t avoid a name you love bc of them.
