I know this name has a bad rap for some reason, but I really love it. Opinions on the name [name]Madge[/name]?
I think it’s going to gain a bit of popularity since it’s in The Hunger Games, right? I am just starting to read the books now so I haven’t met all the characters, but I think I heard that. [name]Magda[/name] is one of my personal favorites, and I think [name]Magda[/name] and [name]Madge[/name] have a similar vibe to them. I still slightly prefer [name]Magda[/name] but [name]Madge[/name] has grown on me a lot. I would prefer it as a nn for a longer name like [name]Marguerite[/name], [name]Magdalena[/name], [name]Margot[/name], etc., though.
Not to be totally immature, but it rhymes with something w/ a V… D:
Its cute. I think of it more as a nickname though, for [name]Margaret[/name] or [name]Magdalena[/name].
For me, and I’m sorry to say this, I always associate it with a character out of a program called Benidorm…shes a chain-smoking old lady, with an orange tan and a mobility scooter!
I think maybe a name like [name]Magdalena[/name] would probably be better, and you could possibly use [name]Madge[/name] as an nn!

[name]Magda[/name] to me sounds European and somewhat exotic, while I kind of agree with pp’s chain-smoking old lady image for [name]Madge[/name]. Or a middle-aged waitress at a diner. I think there was a lady called [name]Madge[/name] on a Palmolive dishwashing liquid commercial years back. [name]Marge[/name] has a similar image for me. I see [name]Madge[/name] as an old-fashioned nn for [name]Margaret[/name].
I rather like [name]Magdalene[/name] and [name]Magdalena[/name].
I will forever associate this name with [name]Madonna[/name] after it became her nn
I think [name]Madge[/name] is a really cute nickname in theory (for [name]Margaret[/name], [name]Marguerite[/name], or even [name]Margaretta[/name], which I just discovered and love). The association with [name]Madonna[/name] and the aforementioned rhyme kill it for me though.
