Madison in the future?

We’re talking like 10-12 years from now, could you see the name [name_u]Madison[/name_u] on a little boy? [name_m]Will[/name_m] [name_u]Madison[/name_u] stay as popular for a girl as it is right now long enough for my son to be made fun of?

I think [name_u]Madison[/name_u] will follow a similar trajectory to the one [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] has followed - being so popular on girls while barely ranking (if at all) for boys it will probably still be a tough one for a boy to wear. While some “dated” unisex names like [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] or [name_u]Robin[/name_u] I’d support reclaiming for the boys, names like those had a closer gender ratio (in fact it’s closer now in many cases as the names fell faster for girls) and didn’t come as close to the top spot for girls at their peak. For some examples of more “current” unisex names, [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] seems to be following the [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]/[name_u]Madison[/name_u] type trajectory while [name_u]Avery[/name_u] is following the [name_u]Kelly[/name_u]/[name_u]Robin[/name_u] one.

In ten years or so [name_u]Madison[/name_u] will be come the [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f]/[name_f]Jessica[/name_f] of names; the dreaded “mom name”. Sadly, the majority of names that “go pink” as the saying goes never go back.

I unfortunately have to agree with previous posters. I think it is firmly feminine name now. If you really love it, maybe it could be a middle with a very masculine first name.

I agree, in 10-12 years, [name_u]Madison[/name_u] will be a terribly dated mom name. In 50 years, I think it could rise in popularity again, and become more boy. I would love to meet a boy named [name_u]Madison[/name_u] though, so, if you love it, I don’t honestly think it would cause any harm.

I think that in 10 years it will be like the 90’s names are now- dated. Maybe in 60 years it will be “cool” to name your child a “grandparents” name. It’s “cool” and “trendy” to name your kids [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] or [name_f]Elanor[/name_f], or [name_f]Violet[/name_f] now. Maybe a celebrity will discover the name and name their boy or it will be the main character on a T.V. (or whatever they will have then) show it will rise to the top 10 boys list; but in 10 years, no.

I guess it will be a mom name. It seems like most moms shy away from names from their own generation unless they’re using their favorites from since childhood. I guess it wouldn’t be too unlike [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] or [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] is today. Wearable for a boy, but it could easily be the name of one of his playmate’s mothers.
