Mae Winter?

We are due with our fifth (!!?) in a few months. My favorite name for this baby (if a girl) is Mary nicknames Mae, a family name that I love. However our last name is…Winter! I am trying to decide if Mae Winter is ridiculous or—poetic? Intriguing? My husband likes name but is hesitant about the combo. I also love Mary nn Mamie, but this name seems to get mixed reviews due to its visual similarity to a racist term… alas. Feeling at the moment like baby won’t have a name at all.

If it’s just a nickname I think you’re fine.

Since [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is technically a nickname, I think it’s usable, though perhaps not ideal. There is something rather poetic about it – on the right side of cheesy, I’d say.

[name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u] is a great name. Since it is a nickname and not spelled [name_f]May[/name_f], I think it’s totally fine.

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u] is absolutely lovely. :yellow_heart: I love [name_f]Mae[/name_f] as a nickname (or a full name)! [name_f]Mamie[/name_f], too! You truly can’t go wrong here. Great choices!

[name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u] does sound poetic (and, if she doesn’t love it, she’s got [name_f]Mary[/name_f] to go with too)

[name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u] is stunning! [name_u]An[/name_u] intriguing name fit for a main character

Absolutely love [name_f]Mary[/name_f]!

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] is incredibly timeless, graceful, refreshing and strong option. I think [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u] is soooo beautiful. Honestly I think [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is just fine as it’s only a nickname. Also I think maybe [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] could be a sweet nickname [name_f]Mary[/name_f] which may work taking away the month/season connotations. Still [name_f]Mary[/name_f] ‘Mae’ [name_u]Winter[/name_u] is lovely and I would go for it.

I would choose [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u] and nn Mae/May and you’ve then also got [name_f]Mimi[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] (esp if [name_f]Mamie[/name_f] doesn’t feel OK to use), [name_f]Molly[/name_f] and [name_f]Polly[/name_f] up your sleeve. I love the name [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u], it’s lyrical and confident too.

I like it! :white_heart:

I’d didn’t even put two and two together as to why [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u] would be a problem until I pondered it for a moment. lol If it were spelled [name_f]May[/name_f] I think it would have hit me quicker. As is, I think it’s just fine. Especially as a nickname.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] it!!

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u] is a gorgeous combo and I absolutely love [name_f]Mae[/name_f]! I see what you mean about [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u], but I think it leans more poetic than silly. Definitely usable!

I think [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u] is so pretty you could call her by both together!
