What are your thoughts on this name? NN possibilities? Is it usable [name_m]IRL[/name_m]?
I will probably be in the minority, but I love this. It makes me think of a beautiful, strong woman. While she was little I would expect to call her [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], but if you hate [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Lena[/name_f] also works.
I love [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]! It has the same mysterious feeling as say [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f], and I can imagine a feisty, adventurous girl called [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]. [name_f]Lena[/name_f] ([name_m]Lay[/name_m]-nuh) is my favourite nn, and [name_f]Magda[/name_f] and [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] are okay too. I also love the Italian version [name_f]Maddalena[/name_f].
I like it too. Especially because it gets to one of my fave nns, [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. But it’s versatile and you could also get to [name_f]Meg[/name_f], Dally, [name_u]Dale[/name_u], [name_m]Len[/name_m], [name_m]Lenny[/name_m], [name_f]Mina[/name_f], [name_f]Maddie[/name_f]…
I love it! So beautiful and regal! [name_f]Lena[/name_f] would be my favourite nickname, [name_f]Mags[/name_f] and [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] are cute as well. I think it would work irl, I can picture little girl with curled, chocolate brown locks running around the house with big curious, brown eyes. The name gives off a warm, strong vibe 
I really like it. I am not sure if I’d say mag-da-leh-na or mag-da-lee-na or mag-da-lay-na. But aside from that it’s a gorgeous name.
It is so so so beautiful and strong. I love [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]. I think it is perfectly usable, and would make a perfect fitting in, standing out choice amongst the [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]'s, [name_f]Angelina[/name_f]'s, [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]'s, etc. It sort of fits into the same category as names like [name_f]Raphaela[/name_f], [name_f]Ravenna[/name_f], [name_f]Gabriela[/name_f], [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] and [name_f]Giselle[/name_f] for me: feminine, strong, exotic names.
I love the nicknames [name_f]Malley[/name_f] / [name_f]Mallie[/name_f], [name_f]Leni[/name_f] and [name_f]Lena[/name_f], but [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] can suit any girl: [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_u]Dale[/name_u], [name_f]Madge[/name_f], [name_f]Magda[/name_f], etc.
I have always loved this name! Unfortunately whenever I’ve mentioned it I’ve gotten the crinkled nose response. I’ve been told that it’s inappropriate to name a child after a prostitute. But I’m not religious, so if I used it, it wouldn’t be after [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if it were after [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f], I think that would be respectable. (If your savior was good with her, why aren’t you?) Take your tired morals elsewhere because I don’t have an issue with sex work. End of rant. I ended up nixing this from my list because it seems impossible to disassociate it from the Biblical reference. But it has such a gorgeous cadence and great nicknames!

[name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] has been very high on my girl’s list for ages (DH is Romanian-born and my dad is Croatian-born, so it feels really familiar to us). [name_f]Magda[/name_f] is a lovely nickname, so is [name_f]Lena[/name_f] and pretty much anything in between ! As for naysayers because of [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f], well, I agree with one poster that it’s not a good enough reason + it would also ban all the [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]/ [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]/ [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] names … So I’m all for [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]!
The one thing that keeps me from really loving it is a friend of mine named her dog [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f], but we don’t speak anymore so it’s not like I would be around and they would both be called the same name. I was a little worried about the association because although I am not religious my family is. I’m sure they wouldn’t say anything out right but I would need to pick a really good NN because that would be all they call her by.

I am Polish and so I like the name [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] because a lot have it. A possible nickname is [name_f]Magda[/name_f] which a lot of women use.I hope you have another little joy soon!
