So in trying to figure out a middle name for [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] this morning I was pushing my case with dh for using [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] as a middle name. The parish that dh and I were married at was St. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f]. Plus this baby is due on [name_f]Easter[/name_f] ([name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] was the first witness of the resurrected [name_m]Jesus[/name_m]). This got me thinking about [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] or [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] as a potential first name. DH said he’s open to it if I’m passionate about it. I think I had [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] on my list 12 years ago when I was pregnant with my first. What do you guys think about the name in general? [name_m]Will[/name_m] it constantly be misheard as [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]? Is [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] a better spelling? With my other girls I went with the spelling use on icons, medals, churches, etc. In this case both [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] and [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] seem acceptable.
I definitely prefer it with the ‘e’ at the end.
It makes the name more clear when written.
BTW, I love the personal and historical associations your baby will have with the name! It will make it all the more precious to her!
[name_f]Magdalen[/name_f]/[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] is a beautiful name and very appropriate since your due around [name_f]Easter[/name_f].
I like the name spelled either way.
Oh, and if it’s going to go on my list I should have asked for middle name ideas. Hubby is always trying to use my first name, [name_f]Laura[/name_f], as a middle. But [name_f]Laura[/name_f] always sounds bad in the middle. I think an “M” middle might be fun.
I like [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]
I think it’s lovely–also Magdelena.
I love [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]. I think either spelling is acceptable, but I prefer the e.
I love it! Especially with [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]. Such a good choice : )
[name_f]Love[/name_f] it. I prefer it [name_f]Magdelene[/name_f]. I love Magdelena even more. Would be lovely as a middle or first name.
[name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] is beautiful!
[name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] [name_f]Adele[/name_f] would be a rather darling combo.
[name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]
[name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
And actually, [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] is rather sweet.
I love [name_f]Magdelene[/name_f]! I prefer the “e” spelling as it’s the one I see most often (it also seems more feminine, for some reason). [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] is beautiful and very well balanced. If you don’t care for how [name_f]Laura[/name_f] sounds in the middle, what about [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] instead? [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] has a nice ring to it.
I love [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]! I prefer the e on the end but solely because it looks more balanced to me. It works fine without it. [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] is gorgeous! I can’t remember your [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] combo but I think [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Laura[/name_f] is beautiful and that way you could get [name_f]Laura[/name_f] in there
Our [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] combo is [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Laura[/name_f]. It’s the only way [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] makes the short list as dh thinks it’s a bit too long.
I love this name… I also like the idea of [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] for this instead of for the traditional [name_f]Margaret[/name_f].
[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f], [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] [name_f]Esther[/name_f]…
Yes, aside from the sentiment sake, the real reason dh is willing to consider [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] is he knows he’d call her [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] nearly all the time. I adore the name [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]. [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] is awesome. I think if dh goes along with [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] he’s not going to give me [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] as well.
I like [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] so much! I considered it at one point for our daughter as a way to use [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. We met a little girl named [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] today at the play center, and one of my friends from high school has a little one named [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] they call her [name_f]Lena[/name_f]. It probably will get misheard as [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] from time to time, but honestly how much of a problem is that really? Especially when it’s the middle name.
It is such a lovely name. I prefer it ending with an a: [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]. It is so lovely I would make this the first name and [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] the mn.
I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] this name. Although I am bias because my daughters first name is [name_f]Magdalyn[/name_f]. Her Middle name is [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. We Call her [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] for short and it fits her just perfectly.
