Maggie? Others?? Please help!

Okay I have many questions relating to this name. Please help me haha.

[name_f]Maggie[/name_f]? Too old fashioned sounding? I love this so so much but I’m just trying to figure out whether you can see it on a teenager and adult as well as on “old lady [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]” and “cute little baby [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]”

[name_f]Magdalen[/name_f]? Or [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]? I love this as a full name for [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], as well as [name_f]Margo[/name_f]/[name_f]Margot[/name_f], but will pronunciation be a problem? Both (to my knowledge) are supposed to be pronounced mag-duh-len/lin but I’ve heard people say [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] as mag-duh-leen, which I don’t like as much. Also I’m in the UK and although I don’t live there, I’m aware there’s a [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] college in [name_u]London[/name_u] that’s pronounced “maud-lin” so will that be a problem as well??

Which spelling of [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f]/e do you like best? (Does [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] look incomplete?) and how would you pronounce it?

My first middle name thought was [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (honour name) but [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f]/e [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and a surname beginning with H gives the initials MEH which could be a problem. Am I overthinking or is it a serious deal breaker? [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], our second choice just doesn’t seem to flow as well though, what do you think?

And finally, any more middle name suggestions would be much appreciated, and also any other M- names of any spring to mind? With an option for the nn [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] or not (an unrelated choice we also love is [name_f]Mina[/name_f])

I’m so sorry for the long post! I didn’t want to start multiple threads. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t feel like everything must be answered, honestly, any input would be amazing. Thank you! <3

I love the name [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. It is now coming back into fashion so I think it’s the perfect time to use it. I can see it on any aged girl, and if they don’t like the nickname [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], they could also go for [name_f]Meg[/name_f] as a more modern twist.

I would use the full name [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] (spelt this way- [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] looks unfinished to me) or [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], and I’d pronounce [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] [name_f]Mag[/name_f]-da-lane, but that may just be where I’m from. I honestly don’t thing the [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] College will be any problem for people pronouncing the name as it’s not world-known. Another suggestion to get the nickname [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] is [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], this name is becoming increasingly popular from what I’ve been seeing. I also know a [name_f]Magenta[/name_f] who goes by [name_f]Maggie[/name_f].

I don’t think the initials MEH are a problem - I knew a person with the initials SAD and they were still fine, initials don’t really mean anything. [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] H sounds lovely. Other middle name suggestions are [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] or [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f].

Good luck! X

I love [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]!

[name_m]Ah[/name_m] I hadn’t even thought about using [name_f]Meg[/name_f] but I’m so glad it’s there as another option. I also love [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] with nn [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] that’s adorable. Thank you!

I really like [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], its definetly coming back into fashion! I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f], I much prefer [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]. I wouldn’t think the college in london would casse any confusion.

[name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is sweet, and I wouldn’t give much thought to the initials. I know people with really bad initials and nobody cares/notices much.

Other [name_f]Mag[/name_f]- names I like;
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and think it’s fine for any age just as it is. I’m not a big fan of [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f], but if using it this is my preferred spelling.

I love [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] nn [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], my favourite. Otherwise I would use [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] or [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] nn [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] and [name_f]Marguerita[/name_f] are other nice options.

I know two Maggies who are both college aged. So they have used the name from birth through adulthood (both are actually Margarets I believe). Personally, I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Margot[/name_f] and that would be my favorite, though I wouldn’t use [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. I also love [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Meg[/name_f].

If you want to avoid confusion over -len or -leen ending I think you should choose the [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] spelling as I think fewer people would pronounce this with the -leen sound. I don’t think the college would be an issue at all.

This initials are not a big deal. [name_m]How[/name_m] often do people even use their initials? and MEH isn’t that bad in the world of initials. Plus, she may change her last name one day and have new initials anyway.

I think others gave you some good other [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] options so I’ll leave it at that.

[name_f]Maggie[/name_f] doesn’t feel too old-fashioned to me. I think it sounds upbeat and happy, and a little cutesy and quirky.

I would definitely go with the [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] spelling, as I think it’s the most common, and looks more feminine and complete than [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f]. I’m English, and the [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f]/[name_f]Maudlin[/name_f] thing is something I’m aware of. [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] pronounced [name_f]Maudlin[/name_f] is the name of one of the colleges in both [name_m]Oxford[/name_m] and Cambridge (there isn’t one in [name_u]London[/name_u] AFAIK), and while people wouldn’t pronounce the name that way, when I see [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] my first thought is of the college. The [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] spelling doesn’t have the same issue.

[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is very pretty, and I don’t think the initials are a huge problem. I think [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is sweet though.

It’s quite a lot more unusual, but for nickname [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], you could also use [name_f]Magali[/name_f]/Magdali. Other “M” names I like include:

[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]
[name_f]Maelys[/name_f]
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Maia[/name_f]
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f]
[name_f]Malia[/name_f]
[name_f]Marcheline[/name_f]
[name_f]Mariana[/name_f]/Marianela/[name_f]Marianne[/name_f]
[name_f]Marie[/name_f]-[name_u]Clare[/name_u]
[name_f]Mariposa[/name_f]
Maristela
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Melisande[/name_f]
[name_f]Melusine[/name_f]
[name_f]Minna[/name_f]/[name_f]Minnie[/name_f]/[name_f]Minette[/name_f]
[name_f]Miuccia[/name_f]

I really like [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] but the initials MEH would be a deal breaker for me. I use my initials every day at work and I think people would snicker if they saw “meh” written on an invoice as an approval. I also just ordered a backpack for my second grader with his initials on it. He is very excited about it, but I don’t think I’d want to have “MEH” written on his backpack. The kids also have a stool with their initials and a couple of other things. In my experience initials are used quite frequently. I think “MEH” is setting her up for teasing, especially since it implies indifference and mediocrity. [name_m]Just[/name_m] my opinion though!

I prefer just [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], none of the longer versions. Formal names are very silly to me when you’re never going to use them. As for the initials, I guess it depends on whether you’re the type to monogram everything in sight or not. I personally don’t like monogram and when I initial things, usually only use first and last initial, not all 3.

I love your suggestion of [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], we’ll definitely have a conversation about that. Thank you!

thank you for your input on the spelling and the other M names you suggested, they’re all lovely!

We intend to use her full name, but nicknames are inevitable and [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] is a nickname we both love
