We have two lovely children and we are hoping for a third sometime soon. Girls names are proving tricky for us.
Current list:
[name_f]Maggie[/name_f] - we both like it but it is new to the list. I don’t think that it will age too badly but I am aware that [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] would be a more sensible choice, however I am just not feeling the [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] love. Is [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] a viable stand alone name for an adult?
[name_f]Tessa[/name_f]- love how playful this name is. Hubby not sold on this though.
[name_f]Norah[/name_f]- we both like this name but I have had some negative reactions to this choice.
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f]- we both like the name and all of the nn’s. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s clunky sounding? our other two children have quite gentle sounding names. Also, do any [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] lovers worry about [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] the pooh name teasing?
I love… [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f], [name_f]Lucie[/name_f], [name_f]Molly[/name_f]… All vetoed
We also like [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] but we both really dislike [name_f]Maddy[/name_f].
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] was a strong contendor but we feel a third E name might be a little too much.
Thoughts, ideas all very much welcomed xxx
Yes, in the world of [name_u]Frankie[/name_u], [name_u]Freddie[/name_u], [name_f]Edie[/name_f] and so on… [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] is definitely a viable choice, as is [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] as a standalone name too.
I like [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. If you like [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], I don’t think you should worry about the teasing because for example, [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] is the [name_m]Simpson[/name_m]'s baby.
Thank you for your msgs. @namefan I asked hubby about margarite but he is not convinced, maybe it will grow on him. @lolo I love the sound of the name magnolia but I do think about choosing paint, which is probably not the best association. I will think on this one though. @armadura I have thought about the Simpsons association with this name but I don’t think a bad one. I don’t think Simpsons will be so hugely popular when she’s older anyway. I think is more the ‘pooh’ potential names calling for [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] that worries me x
[name_f]Maggie[/name_f] is so sweet! What about [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]? It’s so similar to [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] but you get [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] for a nn.
I also like [name_f]Della[/name_f] for a nn for [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Norah[/name_f] is a beautiful name!
[name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is cute but [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] is not my style.
I am in a similar dilemma! I also love [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f], but dislike [name_f]Maddie[/name_f], and love [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] but can’t use [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]!
[name_m]Will[/name_m] watch this closely for any solutions! Wish I had one to offer!
[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] is not so pretty as [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] to me unfortunately
I definitely think [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] can stand alone. I’m a [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], and while my full name is technically [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], honestly I have always used [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] pretty much everywhere. It’s on everything bar the passport, and I introduce myself this way to everyone. Most people never ask if it’s short for something else, they take [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] as my full name, it’s on business cards, it’s what my family calls me (well, my Dad calls me [name_f]Margarita[/name_f] just as an affectionate name!) etc, so I really don’t think there’s anything to worry about if it’s the name you love!
Funnily enough when ordering coffee or the like, I used to say, “[name_f]Maggie[/name_f], as in [name_m]Simpson[/name_m]” because then there was less chance of the barista mishearing me as [name_f]Megan[/name_f] or [name_f]Maddie[/name_f]! It was never a negative association to me, just a fun one, and it made people smile. I haven’t said that in a while though because I think the show is not as prevalent as it used to be in its hey-day.
I really like my name and it’s served me very well for the last 30+ years. If you love [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and that’s the name you want (not anything longer), I definitely say go for it.
I know three teenaged [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]'s who don’t have a full name and it works well on them. I don’t any of the long forms very much and much rather just [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]
I love your choices, especially [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Tessa[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] and [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]. I definitely think [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] works as a stand alone name, I hope to use it one day. [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] though, I’m not sure. I like [name_u]Winslow[/name_u] and [name_f]Winsome[/name_f] as a full name. I also think [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] ages perfectly fine. My name is [name_f]Molly[/name_f] (I think it fits in the same category as [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]) and I am in my late 20’s and I don’t have any issues. Good luck with number 3!
[name_f]Maggie[/name_f] can definitely be a standalone name. If you like [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Molly[/name_f], [name_f]Lucie[/name_f], [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] and that style of names, maybe you would like [name_f]Maelie[/name_f]? It’s often overlooked and yet it’s so pretty.
