Magnus James?

My husband and I have decided to name our son [name]Magnus[/name] [name]James[/name] and would like to know what people might generally think upon hearing the name. My husband and I both have Scottish roots and we like that it fits with our sons heritage. So general thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I love it! So handsome. But, I’m a name nerd so I can’t provide an accurate depiction of what non-name nerds will think. lol

I’d really like to see something other than [name]James[/name] in the middle spot… There’s nothing particularly Scottish about [name]Magnus[/name] [name]James[/name] either.

[name]Magnus[/name] is/was a very common Scottish name, especially years back and as a surname it was also very common.

Is it? I couldn’t find it on [name]Scotland[/name]'s popularity chart.

Here’s [name]Scotland[/name]'s top 100 from 2011: Popular Names in Scotland 2011 - Behind the Name

That’s why I said “is/was”, as it’s not overly popular, and “especially years back”. Lol. Which works out since I like older names

I love [name]Magnus[/name] [name]James[/name]! It’s very handsome and solid. The familiar [name]James[/name] is a great pairing with the less common [name]Magnus[/name]. Nice job!

There is considerable cultural and genetic overlap between the Scots and the Norwegians, so [name]Magnus[/name] has traditionally been a popular name in [name]Scotland[/name], although people in [name]Scotland[/name] today are leaning towards [name]Aidan[/name] and [name]Jack[/name], like the rest of the English-speaking world.

I think [name]Magnus[/name] [name]James[/name] is a great name, but would probably not choose it if the last name begins with “S”.

[name]Magnus[/name] has really grown on me since seeing it on these forums, and has made my list as well. I like it paired with the common, sweet-but-simple [name]James[/name]. Nice choice. Congratulations!

 We love it so much!

My first thought was a prep school jerk. I love names with roots, but I can’t like this one. I do love [name]Gus[/name]!

I love [name]Magnus[/name]. It was one of a dozen names we considered for my son, and it is a top contender for my next if we have a boy. I think it is handsome and it is name with substance and history. I feel pretty neutral about [name]James[/name], especially in the middle spot.

I think of Magnum. Like Magnum P.I.

[name]Magnus[/name] and [name]James[/name] are both great names, but together they sound knd of hissy because of the repeated ‘s’ sound at the end.

I think [name]Magnus[/name] is awesome! [name]James[/name] is okay but seems a bit filler-ish.

I think it is very handsome.

I’m not keen on Magnus, it’s sounds a bit old and it’s just not my style. But if you and your husband like then it doesn’t matter what other people think. I’m from Scotland and have never heard of person called Magnus only many dogs.

I really like it! [name]Magnus[/name] is terrific and [name]James[/name] is such a classic - if he ends up wanting to ‘blend in’ a little more, he can always use [name]James[/name] or [name]Jim[/name]. Have you thought about a nickname?
