[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone, we think we have decided upon the name [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] should our baby turn out to be a girl. The boy name that we have chosen ([name_m]William[/name_m] [name_u]Kye[/name_u]) has been picked out for a month now so it is nice to have finally some what settled on a girls name. What opinions do you have on the name? Our one worry was that it would not be suitible for her to have that name as a middle aged woman. [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] is still an option as the first but we would just nickname her [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], however lots of people have been sharing their thoughts with us on this and can not see how [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is a nickname for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f].
We have some other options too, if we still can not commit to [name_f]Maisie[/name_f].
[name_f]Polly[/name_f] [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]- probably our second favourite as things stand!
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_u]Taye[/name_u]
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_f]Rayne[/name_f]
I really like [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and much prefer [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] to [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is whimsical and quirky, while [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] still feels a bit musty (for me at least). [name_f]Polly[/name_f] [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] is also a wonderful choice. [name_f]Polly[/name_f] is such an upbeat name and I find it very lighthearted. I’ve never cared much for [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] but I think paired with [name_f]Polly[/name_f] it really stands out beautifully.
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is really cheerful. I really like it.
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is so cute! I love the combo. [name_f]Polly[/name_f] [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] is also very pretty, but [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] tops it in my book
What? [name_m]How[/name_m] do people not understand how [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] comes from [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]? That’s literally the origin of the name: a nickname for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. (Also, [name_f]Peggy[/name_f] is a nickname for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. And [name_m]Dick[/name_m] for [name_m]Richard[/name_m]. And [name_m]Bill[/name_m] from [name_m]William[/name_m]. And [name_m]Harry[/name_m] for [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. And [name_m]Jim[/name_m] from [name_u]James[/name_u]. Nicknames aren’t necessarily just the first syllable of the name!)
I agree, [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] does not work on an adult as well as [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. It doesn’t sound professional- it sounds like a personal nickname. I would rather have a Dr. [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_m]Jones[/name_m] as my surgeon than a [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] [name_m]Jones[/name_m]. (To clarify: it’s not because it’s a girly-sounding name. It’s because it’s a nickname. I’d rather a Robert than a Bobby, too).
Go with [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]! It’s a great name, and [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is TOTALLY a nickname for it. [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] nn [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is very cute.
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is lovely. I know mature adult women in professional jobs called [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Sally[/name_f] and [name_f]Posie[/name_f]. None of them are ever referred to by another name and all are perfectly professional and smart women. Not an issue with [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] at all.
I have to agree with @araminty. I have seen women with similar names in high-powered professions and it never felt inappropriate. I’d have the same amount of confidence in my surgeon [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] as my surgeon [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], provided she earned it on her own merit. Same as anything.
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is delightful and has such a cheerful feeling to it. If you love it, use it.
I love [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] and think it’s fine on an adult. There is a senator in the US named [name_f]Mazie[/name_f] Hirono and she wears it just fine. Also [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] [name_m]Williams[/name_m] will beat her to middle age which will help. [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] nn [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is also nice, but I don’t think people tend to switch nicknames later in life. The adult Maggies and Peggys I know have always been [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and [name_f]Peggy[/name_f].
I think by the time she’s a middle-aged woman, [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] will sound perfectly normal, as will other slightly childish-sounding names like [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], or [name_f]Hailey[/name_f]. It may not sound super grown-up right now, but eventually people will become used to it. Such a pretty name you have chosen.
Dismissing a woman as unprofessional because of her name is ridiculous and sexist. [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is a lovely name.
