Maisie/Martha

Hello Berries-
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] could be used as a nickname for [name_f]Martha[/name_f]? Or is it a stretch?

Thanks!

Normally I’d say it’s a stretch, but, I had [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] as a nn for [name_f]Martha[/name_f] on my list quite a few years ago, and I think it could, in theory work. [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is a nickname for [name_f]Mairead[/name_f], which is a variant of [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], and, since it’s from those first three letters, I think it could be pulled off. I’m sort of iffy on it still, because I’m not keen on nicknames that make little sense with the full name, but I think it could work. Especially if she was [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], or [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]/[name_f]May[/name_f].

I think it works fine.

I think it’s a stretch.

Definitely works! I call my daughter all sorts of nicknames that are much more of a stretch!

I agree that it’s a stretch, and, to add to lawsonhaley’s post, you could try other combinations like [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] or even (also a stretch) [name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] or some other name starting with a “si-” sound.

I think it’s more than a stretch. Why not just go with [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]?

I really love the name [name_f]Martha[/name_f]…don’t care for [name_f]Maisie[/name_f].
