We would love your advice. We are expecting baby number 3 in [name_u]December[/name_u] and we are struggling with a girls’ name for lots of reasons!
We have lots of nieces and nephews and friends with children, all who have used some very lovely baby names which we now cannot use! We are also keen to chose a name which works with our children’s names, [name_u]Luca[/name_u] and [name_f]Arianne[/name_f] ([name_f]Annie[/name_f]).
So we have found a name we do like. [name_f]May[/name_f] is very sweet and we wondered if we could use the more affectionate [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] when she is little. Or do people think naming her [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], giving her the option to use [name_f]May[/name_f] when she is older is better? Our other dilemma with these names is that she would have cousins called [name_f]Mia[/name_f], [name_f]Mila[/name_f] and [name_f]Martha[/name_f]. Too many Ms???
If anyone has any other suggestions, we would love to hear from you. Our surname is one syllable beginning with F.
I don’t think lots of M-names is a problem for cousins, it’s only somewhat problematic if they’re all siblings. For cousins it doesn’t matter.
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is often used as its own name, so naming her [name_f]May[/name_f] for the sake of nicknaming her [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] wouldn’t be necessary. However, [name_f]May[/name_f] is also a beautiful name and if you wanted to start calling her [name_f]May[/name_f] when she’s a little older, then you’ve left that option open.
I think naming her [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] with the possibility of [name_f]May[/name_f] as a nn is great. Another thought is [name_f]Esme[/name_f] or [name_f]Esmae[/name_f] with the nn [name_f]Mae[/name_f]/[name_f]May[/name_f]. I think it would go nicely with [name_u]Luca[/name_u] and [name_f]Arianne[/name_f] nn [name_f]Annie[/name_f]
Not too many M’s. I love [name_f]May[/name_f] and [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]. I prefer [name_f]May[/name_f], but [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] may be a better fit for you.
Your name ideas are stunning, but if you were worried about anything with that, I was thinking [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] was perfect for your family and sibset, as long as it’s not taken. [name_u]Luca[/name_u], [name_f]Annie[/name_f], and [name_f]Posey[/name_f] are sooo cute together.
P.S. [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Arianne[/name_f]-it’s my name! <3
I adore [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]! We also have Esmé on our list.
I think [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is perfectly acceptable as a name by itself, it’s rather popular in the UK. And she could always use [name_f]May[/name_f] herself if she wished
I adore both of them! I personally would lean more toward [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] nn [name_f]May[/name_f], simply because if you have a one-syllable last name, the overall effect might be a little too terse (though probably still really good). Good luck to you!
Hearing your thoughts is making me love [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] more and more! Thank you!
Another question my husband asked was whether it suits an older woman as well as a baby/ young girl? He worries it’s too much like a nickname?
They are both beautiful names. I think both [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] and [name_f]May[/name_f]/[name_f]Mae[/name_f] would age well. I can picture a little girl called [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] and an old woman called [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] and vice versa.
