Maisie?

Fellow name nerds…what do you think of the name [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]? My husband and I are expecting our first bubba, the sex will be a surprise, but we want to go to hospital with a boy and girl name favourite.

Our boy’s name pick is [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] [name_m]Webster[/name_m]

My husband suggested [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]- he loves girl’s names with a nickname feel to them (other names he likes are [name_u]Frankie[/name_u], [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] etc). I wanted something of Irish or Scottish origin (like myself and my siblings) and that goes well [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] (which we will use now or in the future).

It turns out [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is the Scottish diminutive of [name_f]Mairead[/name_f] (the Scottish [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]). My name is also a variant of [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], and both my name, and [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] mean ‘pearl’.

All those reasons are strong pros for [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], and my husband really loves it. My concern is how well it will stand on its own- is it substantial enough? My husband think thats [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] will be perfectly at home with the Poppys, Frankies, Billies etc that we are seeing now in girls under 5… all those girls will be adults one day too! I guess I just can’t picture [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] on a 30yr old business woman haha! I welcome your feedback!

I think [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is perfect and fits all your criteria well. [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] and [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] make an adorable sibset.

I [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] and I know a few grown women that wear it just fine if that helps

I personally don’t like [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]…but more like [name_f]Eileen[/name_f] or [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] which I think would age better.

[name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is very cute. I have friends who used Amaze as a middle name and use the nn [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] and it works well. (I don’t remember her full name as no one uses it.) As nickname names go, I think it has a lot more substance and sweetness than names like [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] or [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], which I don’t like very much. [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] seems a lot more like a “real” name to me. What middle names are you thinking?

Middle name will be [name_u]Hilary[/name_u], which is my middle name.

I really love [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] and definitely think it’s substantial enough to stand on its own. However [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] [name_u]Hilary[/name_u] doesn’t really flow well in my opinion. I think it’s because they both have the “ie/y” ending so it sounds a little off. If that doesn’t bother you I say go for it, [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] and [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] go well together I think

[name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is lovely and I honestly think it’s feels more of a stand alone name than [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] or [name_u]Billie[/name_u].

oh I love [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] as I said, but I am not liking [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] [name_u]Hilary[/name_u]. It doesn’t flow well.

Our last name in B*ck… single syllable. Very choppy. If that makes a difference.

I am more worried about the flow between first and last name, than first and middle name…not very often that she would have her WHOLE name ([name_f]Maisie[/name_f] [name_u]Hilary[/name_u] Bck) said out loud… would more often hear [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] Bck which I think works ok?

[name_u]Hilary[/name_u] is pretty much set in stone as middle name, as it is my middle name and a family name.

[name_m]Webster[/name_m] would be a boy middle name, which is my husband’s middle name.

The only other middle name I would consider for a girl is [name_f]Siobhan[/name_f], my sister’s name, but I worry that if I don’t have another girl, [name_u]Hilary[/name_u] won’t get used…for the first time in 6 generations…

Keep the thoughts /ideas coming!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]! The name will age perfectly. It is an old nickname which is stylish and these days…totally acceptable as a given name! [name_u]Love[/name_u] the connections to your name, as well.

[name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is really cute, but it doesn’t flow well to me with [name_u]Hilary[/name_u]. If having a nickname name wasn’t one of your criteria, I would go with [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_u]Hilary[/name_u].

I adore [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], I love it so much and I’m trying to work out how to get it back into my signature. It doesn’t feel like a nickname name at all as it has more substance I reckon. It helps that it was never a nickname name. More of an alternative [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] as many names are. I think it can work as a stand alone name and I do think it works with your last name. With the middle name I think [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] [name_u]Hilary[/name_u] sounds fine, you could probably get away with it, and you should definitely use it with that strong family connection.

I love [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] and I think of the very talanted Game of Thrones actress [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] [name_m]Williams[/name_m] whenever I hear that name

I think [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] stands well on its own but I’m not a fan of the combo [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] [name_u]Hilary[/name_u].

If [name_u]Hilary[/name_u] has a long family connection for you then I would just use it regardless of the bad flow, or find a different first name. Maise [name_u]Hilary[/name_u] isn’t the best, but you can get away with a lot when it comes to honor names.

I love it. I think it works with [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] ([name_f]Maisie[/name_f] [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] would even be cute). [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] has crept its way into my top 5 for me as a sister to [name_u]Owen[/name_u].

Thank you everyone! Seems like a consenus that [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] [name_u]Hilary[/name_u] doesn’t flow too well, but generally people aren’t too worried.

Thanks for your thoughts!

I love [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]! She has such charm and history.

[name_f]Maisie[/name_f] seems perfect for you.
[name_u]Hilary[/name_u] wouldn’t be my pick in terms of flow, but it’s not the worst.
Congrats!
