My partner and I like as an alternative to the kind of popular [name_m]Malachi[/name_m]. It has a small meaning to us via a game that we have played for 4 years together.
What are your opinions on the name?
I’ve never heard of this name before. But it seems obvious how it would be pronounced, and t sounds nice. I would say I prefer it to [name_m]Malachi[/name_m], which reminds me of a demon
[name_m]Makai[/name_m] is interesting sounding . I quite like it. It feels familiar but unknown.
Thank you for your opinions
Never before heard this name, but I quite like it. As @greyblue said, it sounds familiar even if it’s not.
I’ve heard of the name because of Mekhai [name_m]Andersen[/name_m], a child actor (from Criminal minds), I suppose the spelling [name_m]Makai[/name_m] comes from the same name. I quite like it, it looks and sounds Biblical or Hebrew.
I really like [name_m]Makai[/name_m], I’ve met two.
There’s a city in Queensland called [name_u]Mackay[/name_u] (pronounced the same), so it feels pleasantly familiar but different.
There’s also the Hebrew [name_m]Micaiah[/name_m] : muh-kai-uh; so I think [name_m]Makai[/name_m] is a great choice.
I like the name. It seems familiar because of its similarity to other known names ([name_m]Malachi[/name_m], [name_u]Kai[/name_u], names beginning with “Mc” or “[name_m]Mac[/name_m]”, etc.) and yet it’s a fresh choice. If you like nicknames, there is the very cool [name_u]Kai[/name_u] or even [name_m]Mac[/name_m].
You’ve met two? Thank you makes it more usable in my eyes. Yeah my partner reminded me of [name_u]Mackay[/name_u], I love the photos of the place, haven’t been there in over 10 years.
Thank you everyone for commenting. Such an amazing input, thought it would be received worse than this.
There was a basketball player named [name_m]Makai[/name_m] (or some spelling pronounced the same way) and I remember nothing else about him except his name because the commentators for the game kept saying how cool of a name it was. I agree! I think [name_m]Makai[/name_m] is a great alternative to [name_m]Malachi[/name_m], as well as the rapidly-rising [name_u]Kai[/name_u]. I knew a McKyle in elementary school, which is the closest to this that I’ve known, and no one thought it was strange.
I quite like it. It is a nice, succinct alternative to [name_m]Malachi[/name_m], and the gaming link would be nice for you both.
In the Hawaiian language, the word makai literally means ‘toward/near the ocean/sea’, which is a nice, added meaning.
I like it. It does remind me of a Hawaiian name although I don’t know if it has history in [name_m]Hawaii[/name_m]. It has a very pleasing sound and I would choose it over [name_m]Malachi[/name_m].
Was stalking replies to my posts and I had to log on and reply.
This comment means the world to me. I don’t know much about [name_m]Makai[/name_m], origin and such so this Hawaiian meaning is awesome! Doubly so as both myself and partner are Cancerians (Water sign)
this name is sounds good. i like it
I think it’s a cool name but I prefer the more well known spelling of [name_m]Mekhi[/name_m].
Thanks. Yeah, I can see why people may prefer it as it is more common of spelling, this spelling honours mine and my partners gaming. I also always thought [name_m]Mekhi[/name_m] was pronounced “MEK-i” /“MEK-eye” whereas [name_m]Makai[/name_m] I feel is pronounced similar to a destination in Australia “Mah-[name_u]KYE[/name_u]”
It has a nice sound, and I definitely prefer it to [name_m]Malachi[/name_m]. [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] has such an evil sound to me (it might be because I watched/read Children of the Corn as a young teen lol)
Ahhhh that’s where I may get may ‘evil’ association with [name_m]Malachi[/name_m]!
