Make me fall in love with Hildegarde

Okay, berries!

I’m back, and I’m still talking about [name_f]Hildegarde[/name_f].

I really love this guy, and he really loves the name [name_f]Hildegarde[/name_f] nn [name_f]Hilda[/name_f]. So you gotta make me love it. Or at least try haha.

I am thinking I would rather go with [name_f]Hildi[/name_f] or [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] as nicknames. I like the ‘i’ ending, and my other favorite name has an ‘i’ ending nickname.

Can you think of any other nicknames? Think of as outside of the box as you can? I don’t HATE it, but it’s not an easy name to sell to the outside world, and I’m not in love with it yet.

Any ideas/insights? Please keep it positive. I can already think of enough negatives on my own. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the advice! I know that you’re right, and I might just have to veto this one, but I’m trying for his sake, lol.

Garden is such a precious idea!

His other favorites are Ammalia, [name_f]Brigitta[/name_f], and [name_u]Clare[/name_u]. I do like [name_f]Brigitta[/name_f].

Can anyone think of other names to offer to him that are like his favorites but a little more romantic or ethereal?

Would [name_f]Holly[/name_f] work as a nn for [name_f]Hildegarde[/name_f]? Too much of a stretch? Garden as a nn made me think of [name_f]Holly[/name_f]…

I think [name_f]Hildegarde[/name_f] is a very strong name, reminiscent of Vikings and the Valkyrie, warrior goddesses and badass princesses. [name_f]Hildy[/name_f] and [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] are my favourite nickname suggestions from the above. I do agree, however, that if you can’t completely sell yourself on the name maybe finding a different, similar feeling name would work.

I wasn’t gonna comment because I have a hard time with the name, until I saw the nickname [name_f]Heidi[/name_f]. I think that nickname could totally make the name! I know a girl named [name_f]Heidi[/name_f], and it suits her beautifully. She is giggly, happy, athletic, compassionate and kind to all.

That said, you have to like the actual name too, not just the nickname. My dad got his favourite as my name, but that was only once they’d narrowed it down to a top 3, then my mom went along with his favourite, but only because she loved it too. I think [name_f]Hildegard[/name_f] would be a hard enough name to wear, I would only be able to pull it off if I knew BOTH my parents had loved it, not just one parent loved it and the other went along with it.

Ammalia, [name_f]Brigitta[/name_f] and [name_u]Clare[/name_u] are all more winners than Hiildegarde [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

I would spell Ammalia : [name_f]Amalia[/name_f], the two Ms look a bit weird to me.

[name_f]Brigitta[/name_f] is gorgeous! [name_f]Brigitta[/name_f] [name_f]Hildegard[/name_f] could work as a combo. Could [name_f]Hildegard[/name_f] be the MN?

[name_u]Clare[/name_u] seems like the oddball here, so different than the others - I wonder why he loves it?

Oh, I could get behind [name_f]Hildegard[/name_f] for you! He genuinely loves it, right? He doesn’t just want to make sort of statement ? I think it has a pleasant, lilting sound that kind of bounces when spoken. I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] Garden as a nickname; so clever and cute! Perhaps [name_f]Dede[/name_f]? [name_f]Dilly[/name_f]?

This was exactly my though. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though your motivation is wonderful, if you need to be forced to like a name then I don’t think it is the one for you. You should both love the name naturally and equally with your partner. You don’t want to spend your life going “why did we pick that?” every time you say her name.

[name_f]Heidi[/name_f] is a totally different name though right? I don’t see it as a nickname for [name_f]Hildegarde[/name_f].

[name_f]Hildy[/name_f]/[name_f]Hilde[/name_f] is a cute nickname and totally wearable. Like the designer on “trading spaces” from TLC. Maybe watching a fun episode of that will let you see how it wears.

Girl, I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Hildegarde[/name_f] so let me try to help you out. And actually, it all started because my husband loved it first!

First of all, I think [name_f]Hildi[/name_f] is absolutely ready for revival with all of the cute vintage names popping back up a la [name_f]Dottie[/name_f], [name_f]Birdie[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], etc. Secondly, St. [name_f]Hildegard[/name_f] is the COOLEST!! [name_m]Even[/name_m] if you aren’t Catholic (or [name_m]Christian[/name_m], for that matter), St. [name_f]Hildegard[/name_f] was a 12th century nun who was also a musician, composer, author, philosopher and physician! She wrote her own books on medicine and was a total force of nature who is considered to have literally written the book of scientific natural history in Germany. She is chalk full of girl power that would be an amazing namesake for any little lady!

Secondly, after reading these comments, I do think [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] is super cute!

But LASTLY of course, it is a decision you need to make together and if you just can’t get on board with the name, you will need to look for another solution. It’s so much harder naming a baby with two people involved  Make sure you go with something you both love!

I love the strength of [name_f]Hildegarde[/name_f], and both [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Hildi[/name_f] as nicknames. If you have Netflix, I’d look up the animated show [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] (or the graphic novel it’s based on.) If anything will make you fall in love with the idea of a little [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] that will certainly do the trick!

[name_f]Hildegarde[/name_f] nn…

[name_f]Ila[/name_f]
Ilde
[name_m]Harry[/name_m]
Hilly

I think [name_f]Hildi[/name_f] is darling, give her a nice soft middle like Darling or [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or something. It’s a fine, strong name.

I love it, honestly  [name_f]Hildegarde[/name_f] is gorgeous, distinct, strong, and has a great namesake. Plus, [name_f]Hildi[/name_f] is adorable (I do like the -i ending).

Check out @haleycarrots on Instagram to see her sweet girl [name_f]Hildegard[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] nn [name_f]Hildie[/name_f]. Right here: https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/hildegardrose/

The nn suggestion of Garden is intriguing. I would also toss out [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] as a more familiar alternative to [name_f]Hildegarde[/name_f]. Good luck!

I really like [name_f]Hildegard[/name_f], and find it a lovely mixture of strong and delicate.
The only nicknames I can think of that haven’t been mentioned are Idgie and Hidgie. I really like the idea of using [name_f]Heidi[/name_f].

I agree that you need to love the name too, though.

[name_f]Melisende[/name_f], [name_f]Melisande[/name_f]

Ceridwen
Morwenna

Good luck!

[name_f]Heidi[/name_f] is absolutely adorable as a nickname! There’s also nicknames like Hilly, but I thought maybe using the “de” as a nickname? [name_f]Didi[/name_f]? I don’t think it really fits what you are looking for but thought I’d suggest it.

Thanks everyone for the input and good advice! I know that I shouldn’t go with it if I don’t love it, but I’m still trying to like it more. St. [name_f]Hildegard[/name_f] is an awesome namesake… And I came up with possible nickname “[name_f]Lari[/name_f]”–what do you think?

Looking for some pretty middle name suggestions! Last name is two syllables, stars with G

I have just read a book in which one of the children was named Hildemara [name_f]Rose[/name_f] I am not a fan of [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] names, but I do like this one.
