A dear friend of ours used our name we had picked for a boy… [name_u]Hudson[/name_u]. I love it so much, but need to move on to another name. It was also a family name too. Sigh. Can’t use [name_m]Holden[/name_m] either. Thoughts?
Why can’t you use it anyway? [name_m]Will[/name_m] your children be close to one another or something? I suggest [name_m]Harvey[/name_m], [name_m]Graham[/name_m], [name_u]Hunter[/name_u], [name_m]Landon[/name_m].

I’m sorry. It’s sad to lose a name you love. At least you get to hear it on your friend’s baby instead of having it ruined by a bad association!
I searched [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] here on NB, and here are the names that people who like [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] also like:

[name_m]Judson[/name_m] also seemed like a natural substitute, though if your sons would be close, [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] and [name_m]Judson[/name_m] are awfully matchy. Good luck!
Use it anyway! Tell her that has long been your favorite you were planning to use. It’s not like she invented the name, and if she’s a good friend she’ll completely understand.
Thank you all!
We might use it still, but it’s just awkward.
I like the suggestion of [name_m]Quentin[/name_m] a lot–a wonderful name with a similar feeling to [name_u]Hudson[/name_u].
I’d just tell the other mom the truth- it was a long-term plan, you really love the name, and it’s a family name for you. (You have as much right to it as she.) She may think it’s awesome that you both have the same taste in names!
You can always call the boys by their middles- [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] J. vs. [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] W. for example. [name_f]My[/name_f] brother and his best friend growing up had the same name- it’s NBD, really. It’s usually clear by context to which one is referring.
