Make these names work together?

I’ve always, always loved the name [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and wanted to name my daughter that. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband likes it, though it hasn’t been his favorite. I finally convinced him, but my problem now is that I also feel very strongly about using [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] as a middle name, because I want her to be named for my best friend. [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] sounds ridiculous to my ear. Any ideas about how to make them work together??

Why not use [name_f]Florence[/name_f] and call her [name_f]Flora[/name_f] as a nn? [name_m]Or[/name_m] [name_f]Floria[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]?

I’d stick to [name_f]Flora[/name_f] as a first name since that’s your favourite!

The obvious solution to me is adding a second middle name, so she’s [name_f]Flora[/name_f] __ [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]. Maybe something from your husband’s side, since you’re already using your favourite name as a first name and your best friend’s name as a middle name? For example, if your husband had a beloved grandmother named [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], she could be [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], and that sounds fine to me!

Ideally, we want to stick with [name_f]Flora[/name_f] itself because her patron saint will be St. [name_f]Flora[/name_f] of Kildare. It’s not a strict requirement, of course, but I am having fun trying to figure out if there’s a way to NOT compromise any of my wishes, just as a kind of frivolous thought exercise!

We actually talked about this because he DOES have a beloved grandmother named [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]! :joy: We couldn’t decide if it’s too long and even tossed around [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Beth[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] or [name_f]Flora[/name_f] Sarabeth…

I think if the options would be adding an extra middle or maybe changing up [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] so it still honours your friend but isn’t the same name, for example [name_f]Sally[/name_f] as it’s a nickname of [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]. But if you’re wanting to keep both [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f] as they are, I’d add an extra middle.

You could do a variation of [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]:

[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Sarai[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Sarita[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Zadie[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Sadie[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Sally[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] Sarabeth

You could add a second middle between them:

[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]June[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Colette[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]

You could consider another way to honor [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] like…

  • her middle
  • something she likes (favourite colour, flower, character, author, music artist, song, hobby, place)
  • something based on a memory you have together (somewhere you’ve been, something you like to do together)
  • a name of her choosing
  • a name based on her birth month, if you’re into that kind of thing (birth stone, birth flower etc)
  • a quality of Sarah’s you hope your daughter has

I know a Sarahanne so was thinking tacking something onto the end of [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]. Sarahbeth totally works!

I think [name_f]Flora[/name_f] Sarabeth totally works

Otherwise I would use two middle names as previous Berries suggested :white_heart:

A few suggestions …

[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]

I would go [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] or [name_f]Sally[/name_f]

Ohhh, these ideas made me a little emotional! And they’re really good ideas too!

[name_f]Flora[/name_f] is beautiful! You could replace [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] with [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] - which is a version of [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] with the same meaning. [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] sounds soooo cute and has beautiful meaning (flower princess :princess::tulip:)

[name_f]Flora[/name_f] is gorgeous :tulip:

I love the idea of [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] as suggested by @tallemaja such a beautiful name really elegant, timeless with a slight whimsy flair.
Alternatively using a [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] diminutive/variation some beautiful options have been suggested by @Greyblue. I think [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] has such sweet vintage charm along with [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Sally[/name_f] which feels very cottagecore. For more sparkly options I think [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Zadie[/name_f] & [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Sarai[/name_f] would be gorgeous.

I am a massive champion of having two middle names and I think it would be a lovely idea to separate the sound of [name_f]Flora[/name_f] & [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]. You’ve had lots of lovely suggestions so count any repeats as me being in agreement with the berries

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] variations…

[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Bethan[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] Sarah/Flora [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Isabeau[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]

Other ideas…

[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]

[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
