We’ve kind of fallen in love with Puritan-style virtue names, but haven’t found any that really seem usable.
A few we don’t like: [name_m]Noble[/name_m], [name_f]Honor[/name_f], [name_m]Valor[/name_m], Merit, [name_m]Chance[/name_m], Courage, [name_m]Loyal[/name_m], [name_u]Concord[/name_u], [name_m]Increase[/name_m]
Ones we really like but know better than to use: [name_m]Ransom[/name_m], Temperate, [name_u]Comfort[/name_u], Harvest, Silent, [name_m]Calm[/name_m], Patient, [name_m]Innocent[/name_m], [name_m]Constant[/name_m] (don’t like [name_u]Constantine[/name_u]), [name_m]Benevolent[/name_m], Manifest, [name_u]Sincere[/name_u], Credence, [name_f]Remember[/name_f], Merciful
A couple that seem sort of usable but we aren’t sold on: [name_m]Clement[/name_m] (but we don’t like the nickname [name_u]Clem[/name_u] and we’re scared it sounds too hillbilly), [name_m]Prosper[/name_m] (we like the nickname [name_m]Ross[/name_m] but are scared [name_m]Prosper[/name_m] is too much of a word and not enough of a name. It also doesn’t really call out to us the way a lot of other names do)
I think [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] would work. Are these first names?? I think most of them would make better middles because they are a bit awkward sounding.
But then, virtue names have never been my style so what do I know.
I love virtue names for boys. There’s so many you haven’t thought of along the lines of justice & courage unless I missed them. Is there something specifically you like like if you wanted to give him bravery you could name him bravery or brave and so on.
I really like [name_m]Prosper[/name_m], its similar to other names like [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]/[name_m]Casper[/name_m] so I don’t think it’s too out there - especially with the nn [name_m]Ross[/name_m]
I love [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] and [name_m]Prosper[/name_m], and like [name_m]Clement[/name_m] and [name_m]Constant[/name_m]. As for nicknames… [name_m]Rance[/name_m]? Yes. [name_m]Ross[/name_m] is cool, but I think [name_m]Pip[/name_m] could work too. And what about [name_m]Clay[/name_m] {as in [name_m]French[/name_m]} or [name_m]Clint[/name_m] for [name_m]Clement[/name_m]? Also, there’s [name_u]Justice[/name_u]/[name_m]Justus[/name_m], Champion, [name_m]Earnest[/name_m] or [name_m]Worth[/name_m] – and [name_m]Vincent[/name_m].
I love [name_m]Prosper[/name_m], which is quite well used in [name_f]France[/name_f] and Belgium. I really don’t like [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] - it sounds violent to me.
Agree with the previous poster about [name_m]Clint[/name_m] as a nn for [name_m]Clement[/name_m]. [name_m]Clement[/name_m] is a really lovely name, as is [name_m]Constant[/name_m], and [name_m]Ernest[/name_m].
[name_m]Ernest[/name_m] is wonderful!!!
Other word names (some of which are Puritan):

[name_u]Rue[/name_u]
