My birthname is [name]Malika[/name], prn Mah-Leh-Kah, but I want to rename myself for numerous reasons.
Today it hit me that the -alik- part of my name sounds like [name]Alek[/name], which is one sound off from [name]Alex[/name]/[name]Alix[/name]/[name]Aleks[/name].
This whole time, I could’ve gone by the nickname [name]Alex[/name]. (Although I’d probably do [name]Alix[/name] cause of the -ali- spelling in [name]Malika[/name]. And of course there’s [name]Ali[/name], but it doesn’t really fit me at all.)
What do you berries think? Is [name]Alix[/name] too far off for [name]Malika[/name]? Is there another way to spelling [name]Alex[/name], but keep the [name]Ali[/name]- beginning? I think it could so work, but I want to verify this first. If I decide it can really work, I might just keep my name and go my [name]Alix[/name].
Also, I’m considering just using an [name]Alex[/name] variant.
[name]Alexia[/name] (But I might use it for a daughter…It’s been my top name for years.)
[name]Alexandra[/name] (But it’s a bit too common and plain)
[name]Alexandria[/name] (but it’s too long. 5 syllables)
[name]Aleksandra[/name] (but it’s too slavic looking and I’m not slavic at all. )
[name]Alexa[/name] (Again, too common and a bit boring to me now.)
Thoughts, suggestions? Really appreciate your help, guys.
I think [name]Alix[/name] for [name]Malika[/name] via [name]Alik[/name] is fine. You could spell it [name]Aliks[/name] if you wanted it closer to [name]Malika[/name] - looks very Russian to me that way, don’t know if it is : D, but I know that’s a concern for [name]Aleksandra[/name] you had. Whether you can pull it off probably depends less on the connection to the name [name]Malika[/name] and more on whether you’re consistent with using it.
If you say [name]Alik[/name]/[name]Alec[/name] and then your first middle name, that sh sound at the beginning of it (not retyping it per your request) kind of makes it sound more like [name]Alex[/name]/[name]Aliks[/name]/[name]Alix[/name], so you’re even closer.
There’s also [name]Alessandra[/name], although [name]Alex[/name]/[name]Alix[/name] gets a little harder from that (not too hard though in my book).
[name]Alexina[/name] is one you didn’t list, that I find kinda cool.
Oh thank you so much! I thought of [name]Aliks[/name], but it looks to trendy/made up to me. I love the look of [name]Aleksandra[/name], but I feel I can’t pull it off.
[name]Alexina[/name] is a great suggestion, thanks!
I adore [name]Alessandra[/name], but I’m saving it for a daughter too. I’ve put [name]Alexia[/name] and [name]Alessandra[/name] on hold for my first daughter, and depending on which I feel fits her more when she’s born. (Talk about serious early planning. Ahaha.)
