WDYT? It would be as a nn for [name]Margaret[/name]. What do you picture with the name [name]Mamie[/name]?
Hey how do you prounounce it? Is it like amy with a M in front of like tammy with a M infront?
I think it’s cute. I used to know a little girl called [name]Mamie[/name], and she was adorable.
Yup. Like [name]Amy[/name] with an “m”
[name]Even[/name] not being sure how it’s pronounced, I think it’s very cute. Currently, I do picture “[name]Mamie[/name]” as a child’s name for their grandmother for some reason, or I think of the Broadway musical “[name]Mame[/name]”. But that said, if I met a little girl with that nickname, I would think it is absolutely adorable and creative (in a good way!). And I think I would instinctively prn it like tammy with an M.
Sorry, didn’t see this before posting my pronunciation thought. Obviously, if I met a little [name]Mamie[/name], I would prn it however she prn it.
I absolutely love [name]Mamie[/name] as a nn for [name]Margaret[/name]. I don’t think you’d have problems with mispronunciations, unless you put a double ‘mm’ in the middle, most people would see that it’s a long ‘a’ I think.
I’d assume [name]Mamie[/name] was [name]Mary[/name]. The only one I’ve ever known personally was my great aunt [name]Maime[/name], whose real name was [name]Mary[/name]. I’ve heard of other [name]Mary[/name]'s nn [name]Mamie[/name] but never any [name]Margaret[/name]'s, however there is a lot of nn overlap between [name]Mary[/name] & [name]Margaret[/name].
To reduce pronunciation confusion (“mammy”) I’d spell it [name]Maime[/name]/Maimie/[name]Mayme[/name]/Maemy. If it’s just a nn, I don’t think “proper” spelling matters
I think I dislike this nickname cause I figure a lot of people would read it as [name]Mammie[/name] not [name]May[/name]-me…the term used for a female house-slave made famous by the movie Gone With The Wind. So I dislike names that remind me of slavery…
But I also think of [name]Mamie[/name] Gummer, [name]Meryl[/name] Streep’s actress daughter.
And it sounds like ‘mame’, as in, to injure.
[name]Margaret[/name] nn [name]Mamie[/name] would be lovely. [name]Mamie[/name] can also be used as a nn for [name]Mary[/name] as well. I like [name]Mamie[/name]'s vintage charm (I think the fussy image of US First Lady [name]Mamie[/name] Eisenhower is decreasing). I imagine a sweet but spunky girl with a vivid imagination who grows up to be a creative, friendly Mother [name]Earth[/name] figure with an quirky side to her personality :).
