I met an 11 year old girl named Mandalay this week, wondering what everyone thinks of the name?? I quite like it, more so as a middle though. Has anyone ever heard this name before or know its origins?

I think Mandalay [name]Bay[/name] hotel in Las [name]Vegas[/name]… so not really a great association for a little girl!
I actually like it, surprisingly. I’m also reminded of Mandalay [name]Bay[/name] in [name]Vegas[/name], like the pp, but I don’t get a negative association from it. [name]Mandolin[/name] is great too.

I guess that connection makes it feel grand & gothic to me. I do think that the lay part could cause teasing though.
Hmm. I don’t think I can see it objectively. There is a buffet in the food court at the local mall called Mandalay Chicken. All I can hear is, “You like to try some chicken, yes?” I worked at the mall for 5 years and heard it daily.
