Mandolin Maeve

We are coming up with several names to take with us to the hospital and choosing once our daughter is born.

[name_f]One[/name_f] of the front runners is [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] or [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f].

Thoughts?

EDIT: I’m adding a post I later made to explain why we like Mandolin. Using another name near that isn’t the same. Thanks.

“I was in the orchestra and my husband is very musical as well. My terminally-ill mother had planned to name me Mandolin before I was 2 weeks late and born on Christmas eve. I’m Holly Lynn btw. My daughter is due on the eve of my mother’s birthday (Dec). I thought it an appropriate name. My husband is Irish, hence Maeve. We both enjoy poetry and the alliteration of MM.”

I love [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]! She could be your little M&M!

I like your mn choices, but not a fan of [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f]. But, if you insist, I like [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] best.

I dislike [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f], as it begins with the word man and the main association is a musical instrument. [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] is very nice. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f]? Same sound, nickname [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], rich history, and not so odd.

I love [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] but [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] is nms. A cute nn for mandolin could be [name_f]Mandy[/name_f]. I like larkub101’s suggestion of [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f]. [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] sounds nice.

I like odd names. There’s history behind [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] for my family. I guess we’ll have to like it all ourselves. Lol live a little. Is [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] really that odd sounding other than it’s uncommon?

I also dislike [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] as a name for the reasons stated previously. I do think it’d make a smashing middle. [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] is awesome.

However, if you insist on [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] in the front, [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] is my favourite and M&M would be adorable for a nn.

[name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] sounds like some kind of musical superhero (sorry). [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], but it’s just a strange combo. If you invert the two, it would work

I think [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] is stunning and refreshing. I think people just aren’t used to [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] being used, but it’s so close to [name_f]Amanda[/name_f], [name_f]Mandy[/name_f], and [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]. And I think it would be great having a connection with the instrument - if it were my name I would definitely learn to play it. [name_m]Just[/name_m] go with it!

[name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] isn’t as cutesy. But [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] [name_u]Avery[/name_u] would be my pick.

My mother wanted to name my sister [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] (middle name [name_f]Marie[/name_f]) if I’d ever become a big sister. While I don’t adore the name, I do think it’s a nice one, and I wouldn’t let people try to sway you off it. If you are already at the stage where baby is coming soon, I am sure you and your partner put a lot of thought into wanting to use that particular name as well as the con’s of using it. And you decided it was the one! End of story.

[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] are both lovely. I slightly prefer [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] as a combo as I think it sounds more lyrical, and two M’s together with [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] is more on the cute side.

Frankly, I think [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] is silly. I also wouldn’t advise naming your child Tambourine or [name_u]Guitar[/name_u]. [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], on the other hand, is a strong and lovely choice. If you want an M- name with a musical meaning, how about [name_f]Madrigal[/name_f]? [name_f]Madrigal[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] or [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Madrigal[/name_f] are beautiful choices.

If [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] is special to you, then stick to your guns. There is nothing bad about it. It’s a word name for a musical instrument, and that’s not a terrible thing! It’s easy to pronounce, easy to spell, and has no negative connotations. I think [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] is lovely because alliteration is poetic, but [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] might flow off the tongue slightly better.

I like [name_u]Lyn[/name_u]/[name_f]Lin[/name_f] names so this one is interesting to me. [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] seems perfectly usable to me although the nn of [name_f]Mandy[/name_f] isn’t my favourite one.

I prefer [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], I like the alliteration.

rollo

Thank you everyone. I was in the orchestra and my husband is very musical as well. My terminally ill mother had planned to name me [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] before I was 2 weeks late and born on [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] eve. I’m [name_f]Holly[/name_f] btw. My daughter is due on the eve of my mother’s birthday. I thought it an appropriate name. My husband is Irish, hence [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]. We both enjoy poetry and the alliteration of MM.

I would change the order to [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f]. I also find [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] on the silly side. Another poster was correct that [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] sounds like a music superhero. Or someone that would have been in buffalo bill’s wild west show.

I love the name [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f]! And with [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] as well. I’d love to see a little Darling with this,

I like the suggestion of [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] as I’m not a fan of it. Out of [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] I prefer the first choice.

I think [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] is sweet. I love [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], and I really enjoy alliteration, I’m just not sure it works here. I think it’s because the ending of [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] sounds a bit like it has a dropped g, so it kind of sounds like [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] is describing [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] -ala Ramblin’ [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. That might just be me though.
But honestly, how often is she going to be called by her full name. I say if you love it, go for it.

Edit: how do you feel about mandolin Aoife? Aoife is the Irish form of Eve, pronounced ee-fa.

I personally think it’s gorgeous!
It’s unique but still namelike and has lovely nn possibilities. ([name_f]Mandy[/name_f], [name_f]Dolly[/name_f], [name_u]Lyn[/name_u], [name_u]Andy[/name_u])
I like both [name_f]Mandolin[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_f]Mandoline[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f]–though I’d vote for [name_f]Eve[/name_f] simply because I think [name_f]Eve[/name_f] is a prettier name, but the alliteration does sound fantastic.

Beautiful name! Stick to it!
