Marcellus

I’m getting really into this name as of late. I love the history and the melodic sound of the name. I fact, I’m also adoring [name]Marcel[/name] and [name]Marcelina[/name] right now. I’ve tangentially known both a [name]Marcellus[/name] and a [name]Marcelina[/name] who were both very cool, artistic people, and the comic internet videos [name]Marcel[/name] the [name]Shell[/name] have really endeared me to [name]Marcel[/name]! My husband even gave a nod when I asked whether he liked these names! The only thing I don’t like about this family of names is the meaning, warlike, and its relation to the god of war. Should this be a deal breaker?

What are your thoughts? Could it be a brother or middle name for [name]Ivo[/name]?

The only [name]Marcellus[/name] I know of is [name]Harold[/name] [name]Hill[/name]'s sidekick from The [name]Music[/name] [name]Man[/name], played by [name]Buddy[/name] [name]Hackett[/name]. I think I prefer [name]Marcel[/name]. I know a French family with a few of them.

[name]Marcellus[/name] is a little long compared to [name]Ivo[/name], but I think [name]Ivo[/name] and [name]Marcel[/name] work really well together.

What about [name]Marcus[/name] or [name]Marshall[/name] or [name]Mitchell[/name]? I know they sound different, but they may be cousins of [name]Marcel[/name]. [name]Marcel[/name] doesn’t sound too bad to me, just not my taste-but if you love it, then go for it, despite the meaning(which shouldn’t influence you too much if you love the sound of it). Meanings aren’t everything.
Here’s a list of name relatives you may like:
[name]Marcus[/name]
[name]Marsh[/name]
[name]Marshall[/name]
[name]Mitchell[/name]
[name]Marc[/name]
[name]Marx[/name]
[name]Maxwell/name
[name]Maximus[/name]

Thanks for the suggestions ashleyjuliette, but I’m not a huge fan of any of those names. I feel like I should like [name]Marcus[/name], but I don’t.

I love [name]Marcellus[/name]. It’s a badass name. I suppose the only one to make a splash in pop culture was The fictional [name]Marcellus[/name] [name]Wallace[/name] from the Matrix, but that’s not an entirely bad association.

I immediately think of [name]Marcellus[/name] [name]Wallace[/name] from Pulp Fiction. (Idk of that character in The Matrix, [name]Blade[/name]… Are you getting him mixed up with [name]Morpheus[/name]?) In any case for me the Pulp Fiction character is un-get-around-able.

Yes. pulp Fictiion. Oops. Still a cool dude.

Hm, I guess it would be fun for a little boy to have a tie to pulp fiction, but I’m not sure it’s really the association I was going for. I studied Latin land [name]Roman[/name] history back in high school, so I like it for its historical ties. Does [name]Ivo[/name] [name]Marcellus[/name] sound to “bad guy character”?

To me God of war/warrior/warlike would be a positive and not a negative. When I think of a warrior or a God of war, I think of strength, bravery, courage and honor. ([name]Seth[/name], [name]Matilda[/name], [name]Luther[/name] are some of my favorite names with ties to war/army/battle).

The name [name]Marcel[/name] is pretty common where I live, and I consider it very usable!

I’m glad to hear you think [name]Marcel[/name] is usable! It feels like it has a set image in most people’s minds, but maybe that’s starting to fade. It’s true about the more metaphoric meaning of war - I had thought of that. [name]Mathilde[/name] (family name) is also on my list and its meaning has never bothered me as much, which is pretty unfair thinking!!

I have nothing useful to add to this conversation. [name]Just[/name] posting to say ‘Thank You’ for introducing me to the name [name]Marcellus[/name]. I’ve honestly never heard it before… and it is fantastic! Definitely on my list of favorites now!

[name]Marcellus[/name] is pretty badass, but I do immediately think of [name]Marcellus[/name] [name]Wallace[/name]. Whether being associated with a dude who may or may not have thrown a guy from a balcony over a foot massage is up to you

[name]Ivo[/name] [name]Marcellus[/name]. Hmm. I don’t know, it kinda works for me. I feel like it shouldn’t, but it does.

argenta_genova - I’m glad you like [name]Marcellus[/name]! [name]Happy[/name] I could introduce you to it!

tk. - Out of curiosity, what makes you feel like it shouldn’t work?

Oh, it’s all feeling with nothing to back it up! I think it’s because my encounters with multiple Marcels [name]IRL[/name] tend to make me think of [name]Marcellus[/name] as a variation of a French name rather than the other way around. So I was thinking of [name]Ivo[/name] as pretty [name]German[/name], and [name]Marcellus[/name] as sort of frilly French, but it’s not. And the more I think about [name]Ivo[/name] [name]Marcellus[/name], the more and more I love it. It’s kind of awesome.

It’s true [name]Marcel[/name] and [name]Marcellus[/name] do both have very different images.

Any other opinions? Can [name]Marcellus[/name] work for a sweet little boy?

I’m loving this name at the moment, too. I’m also loving [name]Marcello[/name]!

I love [name]Marcellus[/name]! It reminds me of the main character in the the book/movie The [name]Robe[/name] (it’s on netflix, if you’re curious). His name was [name]Marcellus[/name] [name]Gallio[/name].

[name]Marcellus[/name] would be an extremely cool choice. I like it with [name]Ivo[/name].

[name]Marcel[/name] and [name]Marcellus[/name] are equally cool to me. [name]Ivo[/name] [name]Marcellus[/name] sounds great to me. Personally, name meanings are not big with me. I can’t even recall what my son’s name means. I’m more of a family names and personal meaning girl in terms of names. It really just depends how you feel about it. I know several people who chose [name]Mar[/name]- names for their son so they could call him [name]Mars[/name], so it’s not universally disliked.
