Maren or Merin?

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer [name_f]Maren[/name_f] or Merin? I believe this name has Welsh roots, does anyone know the correct spelling? I prefer this name to not have a ‘y’ in it as I believe this is another way to spell this name. Thanks nameberries!

I personally prefer [name_f]Maren[/name_f] but I’m afraid I can’t find anything that says it is of Welsh origin?

[name_f]Meri[/name_f] and [name_f]Megan[/name_f] have Welsh origin (I think) so perhaps Merin would be the right spelling in that case?

I prefer [name_f]Maren[/name_f], it feels fresher than Merin to me.
Maybe you’re mixing Merin up with [name_u]Meredith[/name_u]? The latter is Welsh.
There’s also the Latin [name_f]Marin[/name_f], and [name_f]Mairead[/name_f] which is Irish and according to nameberry pronounced MAW-rayt or ma-[name_m]REYD[/name_m].

As far as I can tell, neither of those names are of Welsh origin. However there is a name [name_f]Merryn[/name_f], which is Cornish rather than Welsh.

You may be thinking of [name_f]Mairwen[/name_f], which is the Welsh version of [name_f]Mary[/name_f] ([name_f]Mair[/name_f]) plus the common suffix (G)wen. I believe [name_f]Maren[/name_f] is Latin, and it’s definitely my favorite of the two spellings you listed.

[name_f]Maren[/name_f] is definitely my favorite!

I’m not sure how the same is supposed to be spelt, but [name_f]Marin[/name_f] looks sweeter to me.

[name_f]Maren[/name_f] looks better imo, but I do prefer [name_f]Merryn[/name_f].
