hi berries,
my best friend is welcoming her sweet margaret into the world this month. i am thrilled for her!! in an effort not to get to close to her name choice, i’m thinking that I’ll need to remove margot from my list of girls’ names. margot hasn’t been at the tope, just a name that i’ve been into as of recent ~ so it isn’t too hard of a loss.
what do you think ~ are margaret and margot too similar for the daughters of best friends?
let the know your thoughts.
Honestly, I think it’s okay! They’re definitely similar but it’s not like they’d be sisters living in the same household. But, if you think it would be too confusing, or you generally don’t feel good about the idea, I would lose [name_f]Margot[/name_f] or use it as a middle name. (if [name_f]Margot[/name_f] were your all-time favorite name, I would encourage you to use it, but since it’s not too big of a deal to you, I would go with your gut about the similarity).
Only because they are different versions of the same name, I would take it off the table.

[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] are close for me. You can use [name_f]Margot[/name_f] as a middle though, and if anything, ask your best friend if it is okay to use [name_f]Margot[/name_f].

While I think they’re absolutely too close for sisters, they still seem like separate names to me, so I don’t think you necessarily need to cross it off your list. But since you’re close to your best friend I think it would be nice to ask her what she thinks before going ahead with it (because if she was hoping to use [name_f]Margot[/name_f] as a nickname, that would change things!).
I think it’s fine tbh, you could always run it past her - or wait and see what nn she chooses to use.
Still, to avoid any drama, worries or similarities and since [name_f]Margot[/name_f] is fairly new on your list and not one you’re super attached to, I’d probably just push it to the bottom of the list, maybe relegate it to the middle
I totally don’t think it’s too close, if [name_f]Margot[/name_f] is your absolute favorite. They sound different enough to not be confusing, even though they share an origin as names!
It’s definitely not too close, but I would take into consideration the nicknames that your friend is using. Is she going to primarily call her just [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]? Then, you’re good! Is she going to call her [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], or [name_f]Greta[/name_f]? [name_m]Even[/name_m] better! Is she going to call her [name_f]Margie[/name_f] or [name_f]Marge[/name_f]? Too close. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!
I think [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] & [name_f]Margot[/name_f] are to close for siblings but not to close for friends children depending on how regularly you see each other. I do think if you see each other on a daily/weekly basis then it could be too close. However if you see this friend fortnightly/monthly then personally do not see that the name is too close. I would run it pass your friend before potentially using [name_f]Margot[/name_f] as well just make sure she’s okay with it.
