We’re considering the name [name]Margaret[/name], but we’re not sure we love any of the usual nns (like [name]Maggie[/name] or [name]Meg[/name]). Then we thought of [name]May[/name]. I’ve loved the name ever since I read the Age of Innocence, but have never liked it as a full name. This seems like the best of both words. What do you think? It is a stretch? And does [name]Margaret[/name] go well with [name]Julia[/name] ([name]Jules[/name]), [name]Katherine[/name] ([name]Kit[/name]/[name]Kitty[/name]) and [name]Louisa[/name] ([name]Lou[/name]/[name]Louie[/name])? What would you name [name]Margaret[/name]'s twin?
Thanks,
[name]Charlotte[/name]
I love [name]Margaret[/name] nn [name]May[/name]!
I’d suggest maybe [name]Gwendolen[/name], [name]Josephine[/name] or [name]Elisabeth[/name] for a twin.
[name]Julia[/name], [name]Katherine[/name], [name]Louisa[/name] and [name]Margaret[/name] nn [name]May[/name] would be absolutely gorgeous! Seriously, I love all four names and they’re so classic and elegant and pretty together. [name]May[/name] is an adorable nickname for [name]Margaret[/name]. Twins could be [name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Susannah[/name], [name]Anna[/name], [name]Caroline[/name], or [name]Helena[/name].
[name]Hi[/name], I quite like [name]Margaret[/name] nn [name]May[/name] but I love [name]Marguerite[/name]. [name]Both[/name] names would be wonderful with [name]Julia[/name], [name]Katherine[/name] and [name]Louisa[/name]. All are classic and timeless that never go out of style. Other nicknames are [name]Margot[/name] (love it), [name]Maisie[/name], [name]Daisy[/name], [name]Greta[/name] or [name]Meta[/name]. A twin sibling name that would be a good match with [name]Margaret[/name] are [name]Cecilia[/name], [name]Ruth[/name], [name]Camille[/name], [name]Celeste[/name], [name]Claire[/name], [name]Diana[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Evelyn[/name], [name]Helena[/name], [name]Iris[/name], [name]Joanna[/name], [name]Lydia[/name], [name]Nina[/name], [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Sarah[/name], [name]Susannah[/name], [name]Theresa[/name] and [name]Victoria[/name].
I absolutely love it but prefer it spelled [name]Mae[/name].
I do like [name]Margaret[/name] nn [name]May[/name]. For some reason, it works even though it is an unusual nickname for the classic [name]Margaret[/name]. The name goes very well with your sibset, but I would also suggest the [name]Mae[/name] spelling simply because I like it a bit better than [name]May[/name].
Sorry I think [name]May[/name] as a nn for [name]Margaret[/name] is a bit of a stretch. I think you should go for [name]May[/name] as a stand alone or [name]Maeve[/name], [name]Maisie[/name] or even the almost unheard of [name]Mavis[/name].
[name]Margot[/name] is the common nn for [name]Margaret[/name] otherwise, [name]Margie[/name], Marg, [name]Maggie[/name].
Ditto!!

Thank you for the feedback! We’re so glad that you (well, most of you) like [name]May[/name] as a nn for [name]Margaret[/name]. I understand why some may prefer it spelled [name]Mae[/name], but I love [name]May[/name]. It seems so much more sophisticated to me, probably because of the Age of Innocence. We appreciate the feedback though.
The suggestions give us a lot to think about.
Thanks-

I think [name]May[/name] is a fabulous nickname for [name]Margaret[/name]!
[name]May[/name] has, in fact, been used over the centuries as a nickname for both [name]Mary[/name] and [name]Margaret[/name] - just as [name]Molly[/name] has - so its actually not a stretch at all
