Thank you!

Definitely [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]! I’ve always really liked it.

[name_f][/name_f]

The many & varied nicknames are for sure a bonus, from [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] to [name_f]Greta[/name_f] to [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] and more! AndI love how classic and timeless it feels. In comparison, [name_f]Judith[/name_f] is more retro than timeless, which is a vibe I tend to like less. And I like how because [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] is such a classic it translates well into other languages! E.g. I know of a [name_f]British[/name_f] tourist here in Greece whose name was easily ā€œtranslatedā€ to [name_f]Margarita[/name_f].

I prefer [name_f]Judith[/name_f] for its strong sound, the potential nickname [name_m]Jude[/name_m], and because I like that -ith ending a lot. I think Margaret’s a solid, versatile option but find it a teeny bit stuffy in comparison.

[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] feels more timeless and classic to me, strong, solid, a touch sharp. [name_f]Judith[/name_f] feels partly mid-century-dated, partly out of time, strong and solid with a bit more of energy?

Oh I always loved [name_f]Margaret[/name_f][name_f][/name_f] Sense & Sensibility is one of my favorite books/movies. [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] feels warm + adventurous. When I think of [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], I envision vintage lace, pearls, reading books in a grassy field, skipping stones contests, & collections of simple treasures from nature. [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]My[/name_f] initial thoughts on [name_f]Judith[/name_f] are that she is very sweet & feels energetic + smart to me. I imagine [name_f]Judith[/name_f] to be a capable, quick witted, & compassionate woman

I like both [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Judith[/name_f] [name_f]My[/name_f] youngest daughter has [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] for her middle name. [name_f][/name_f] it was the only name that sounded good with her first name [name_f]Celia[/name_f] [name_f]My[/name_f] granddaughter has [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] as honour names. [name_f][/name_f] Her first name is the beautiful [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] so together it makes a lovely combination. [name_f][/name_f] I also like [name_f]Judith[/name_f], but it name was already taken by a niece on his side of the family. I grew up with many girls named [name_f]Judith[/name_f] (Judy) in my boomer era. It is also a very lovely name.

It has the classy elegance without being overused/stuffy like [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] IMO.

[name_f]Judith[/name_f], I love love love [name_f]Judy[/name_f]. And Judithbwhile still feeling grandma chic, feels fresher and more unexpected.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] doesn’t have as strong as a dip in popularity as [name_f]Judith[/name_f] does, [name_f][/name_f] which generally means it’s a little more classic, [name_f][/name_f] however it also means everyone at some point in time has probably known one. [name_f][/name_f] And I feel like it just blends a little more into the background rather than standing out. (Though I do really Maggie)

I like both, but [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] wins out for me. It’s so timeless and elegant, and I love so many of the nicknames. [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and [name_f]Meg[/name_f] are my favorites.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] is a timeless classic, with lots of rich history and royal connections. If you hear of someone named [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], you can’t necessarily tell from the name alone how old the person is, as it hasn’t had a sharp spike in popularity over its tenure.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Judith[/name_f] is also elegant, and a little more solemn/stoic (in my opinion). The nickname options are fewer. It is less ageless, as people would probably expect that [name_f]Judith[/name_f] is senior/elderly (at least in the U.S.), since it is only on the verge of a comeback with new babies.

[name_f][/name_f]

I met a 20-something [name_f]Judith[/name_f] years ago (she was [name_m]German[/name_m], so it was less unusual), and it really made me see the name in a new light. I’ve liked it ever since.

Tough one! I personally[name_f][/name_f] prefer [name_f]Judith[/name_f]. I know it’s actually Hebrew but sound wise it fits nicely with the celtic/gaelic family of names that I am always drawn to (think [name_f]Rosfrith[/name_f] or Ferelith). There’s a softness to the -ith ending that I just really love. The classical [name_f]Judith[/name_f] beheaded Holofernes to save her people which is very cool imho :joy:[name_f][/name_f] and it makes me think of [name_f]Judith[/name_f] [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m], too, as well as a mad (but brilliant) professor I had at school. I’d imagine a [name_f]Judith[/name_f] to be intelligent and strong willed. I love the nickname [name_m]Jude[/name_m] on a girl, very it girl vibes; [name_f]Judy[/name_f] leans a bit dated though.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] has less personality to me, but it does have a multitude of amazing nicknames to give it flavour. I’d get very different vibes from [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] ā€˜Maggie’ than [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] ā€˜Daisy’ or [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] ā€˜Peggy’ for example. I have known several elderly Maggies and a sporty young [name_f]Meg[/name_f]. I don’t think I’ve personally ever met anyone who goes by [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] in full, and as a [name_m]Brit[/name_m] it does slightly remind me of [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m] :face_with_peeking_eye:[name_f][/name_f] I’d imagine a [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] to be serious and introverted.

[name_f][/name_f]

In terms of the stats, I was interested and a bit surprised to see that [name_f]Judith[/name_f] doesn’t currently make the top 1000 in [name_m]England[/name_m], and it’s in the 800s in the US. It had a huge peak in the 1930-60s so could feel more dated now. [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] on the other hand has trucked along smoothly since records began, only tailing off in recent decades, so she probably feels more timeless to most people.
